The last weekend of August, Toronto's biggest genre fans unite to wreak havoc, hang out and meet other fans as well as meet and greet their biggest idols in genre at FanExpo. I was able to interview an indie horror film director, Chris Power and meet the main Cannibal - Anthony Alviano.
It was such a pleasure to meet and chat with these guys. I had heard about Long Pigs first on Facebook, and wanted to see it instantly. I finally found this film at my local Blockbuster and convinced my boyfriend to rent it. What happened next was truly a treat!
I popped it into the DVD player and sat back with my popcorn. A radio announcer channeling his inner Bob McCowan (of CBC radio fame) assaults the viewer with his opinions, then we're introduced to Anthony, the sweet, gentle man who kills a prostitute just so he can make stew.

So for those unfamiliar with you, who is Chris Power and what is he all about?
First of thanks for your interest in our little flick! As to who I am – well I could give you the resume answer, but really I’m just a film geek who used to work at Blockbuster and finally made a movie that’s on the shelf at my old store.
What was the inspiration behind Long Pigs?
Well, there are two parts to that answer – when we were still in out early 20’s Nathan and I were looking to write a horror story based on actual events. Nathan (who’s originally from Newfoundland) had heard about a strange case that possibly involved ritualistic killings and actually contacted the murderer in prison – that evolved into a documentary in which we broke every journalistic rule in the book and made every mistake imaginable… Cut to...

We here at Big Daddy Horror Reviews try our best to cover all aspects of modern horror from the mainstream to the indie to the little seen. With that in mind we lauched the "Faces of Indie Horror Month"- We brought you an interview with a legend in the field, in the form of director Tim Ritter (Truth or Dare). We saw the cautionary side of indie horror filmmaking with director Chris Power (Long Pigs). We dug up some summetime nostalgia with an interview with actor Matt Mitler (The Mutilator). Now we focus on an up and coming director Jonathan Moody, known for his web based anthologies. With such titles as Trick or Eat or Scream Queen Campfire, Moody is tapping into the nostalgic side of horror, but presenting it in a very modern format. We had the chance to ask him a few questions about his work. Here's...

For Canadian filmmakers Nathan Hynes and Chris Power, the journey to make their full-length feature debut, Long Pigs, was anything but typical.
“I had moved from Newfoundland to Toronto after I finished school,” explained Hynes. “I worked in a restaurant and the hostess told me that there she was talking to this film guy that had come into the restaurant. So I got all excited because I thought it was going to meet some big time movie guy.”
“I so badly wanted to get into the industry, but had no idea how to get my foot in the door. So when I walked over to this big shot filmmaker, it turned out to be Chris who was just another guy like me starting off in the industry. We hit it off immediately though and started working together right after that,” Hynes added.
