When our sister site AfterEllen.com recently presented their list of 25 TV Characters You Should Not Date, we laughed along while smugly shaking our heads and thinking, "So many undateable women!" Then we started our own list ... and our smiles turned to tears. It's not that the gay men on our list don't have their strong points, but as you'll see, the cons outweigh the pros.
Lafayette Reynolds, True Blood
Pros: Hooker, please. You can't handle what he's got to offer.
Cons: Prostitute; V dealer; Suffers from post traumatic stress-from-being-chained-to-a-wheel-in-vampire-dungeon disorder
Dateability: Lafayette is fun and fierce, but don't take V with him or you'll soon be seeing floating voodoo tchotchkes and talking with your dead Grammy about future plot points.
Teddy Montgomery, 90210
Pros: Hot as hell; Rocks a wetsuit
Cons: Can only get life insurance from Art Linkletter; Likes shaking fist at clouds; Bursitis constantly flaring
Dateability: Teddy is hot,...

We asked you which gay or bisexual TV characters you think are the best, and you told us – with tens of thousands of votes cast.
Now we have the results.
But first, a few interesting statistics.
We have quite a few familiar faces – characters who made our last poll of the best gay and bisexual characters two and a half years ago – and a few missing ones, namely Vince D’Angelo (from Will & Grace), George Huang (from Law & Order: Svu), and Waylon Smithers (from The Simpsons), all of whom didn’t even make the top 50 this time around.
Meanwhile, we also have many new faces – from shows that have debuted since our last poll.
Every single character except two comes from a show that ran in the 00s (although some shows, like Will & Grace, did debut in the late 90s). The exceptions? Jodie Dallas, played by Billy Crystal, on Soap...

Knock, Knock. Who's There? The Closet. you're Still Around? You Better Believe It!
There's been a great deal of discussion on the site over the past couple of weeks about gay celebrities, the closet and what constitutes being "out." And even though we've discussed the issue numerous times before, it seems like it is once again time to revisit the topic. And it's a subject that is as tricky as ever and that can have real consequences for the celebrities involved.
Perez kicked the latest round of debate off when he posted an item about White Collar's Matthew Bomer. Without citing a source or saying how he knew, Perez simply claimed Matt was an out gay man. If true, we were certainly interested in writing about Matt and his show, but as we aren't a gossip site, I wasn't going to simply repeat Perez's claims — for lots of reasons.

Adam Lambert (Sort Of) Kissed A Girl ... And No One Could Stop Talking About It
The big gay news of the week is that one big gay icon did something not so gay and set the gay blogosphere abuzz. That's right, Adam Lambert posed for some racy pictures with a nekkid girl and the reaction of our readers was all over the place as demonstrated by the nearly 70 comments folks posted. Our follow-up poll the next day registered nearly 2,000 votes and generated another 50+ comments.
As for the poll results — it was a dead heat with 41% of folks loving the pics and 41% saying "Ew" and believing that someone was trying to give Adam a "hetero" make-over. I'll say one thing; you folks had a ton of passionate, mostly articulate things to say about the topic.
Personally, I see the whole issue as being a nice little zeitgeist-y moment in how we...

Last weekend's Equality March in Washington D.C. got me to thinking about how far we have — and haven't — come in the fight for gay equality. But since AfterElton.com focuses on pop culture, I'm going to look at things through that lens and leave the political analysis for Pam's House Blend, Americablog, Bilerico and the other assorted gay political websites that cover the topic.
One of the very first times American television addressed the subject of gay men (bisexuality was almost never addressed) was way back in 1954 when the L.A. based tabloid talk show Confidential File presented "Homosexuals and the Problems They Present." Hmm, I'm guessing it wasn't terribly flattering unless it was about how boring straight people looked in comparison to us 'mos.
San Francisco's public TV station did the first ever documentary, The Rejected in 1961 and it wasn't until 1967 that a television show first featured a gay storyline.

After the umpteenth successful week behind the mic, American Idol favorite Adam Lambehhhhrrr ("It's French, bitch!") has once again emerged from the Gay of the Week fray as this week's benevolent, jazz-handed ruler.
To find out by what margin Adam bested the other challengers, read on. And be sure to check back in on Friday when a new crop of hopefuls throw down the gay gauntlet in the name of network supremacy!
Why he won: Kicking ass, harder and more often.
How he won: Lavender-larynxed Adam snagged 39% of the votes, beating runner-up Kevin Walker, who earned 28% for not having sex with Jason Lewis (wait, whaaaah?). Officer John Cooper from Southland gained a bit in popularity this week by pulling 23%, and Perez Hilton managed just 10% for his feud with Miss California.
Past wins: This is Adam's fourth time in the throne, putting him one step closer to the Hall of Fame!

In The Spotlight — Emmerdale
This week we bid a fond farewell to Emmerdale’s Paul Lambert (out actor Matthew Bose) and Jonny Foster (Richard Grieve), by taking a look back at their relationship as they exit the series for a new life in Australia – oh, yeah, and to give their troubled marriage a second (or is it third?) chance. It’s been a long hard road for this couple that found their love tested time and again.
Matthew Bose (left) and Richard Grieve
During Paul’s years living in Emmerdale, he endured a series of unsuccessful relationships and tumultuous events including the night he rescued his neighbor Grayson Sinclair (Christopher Villiers) during an assault (and somehow managing to learn of Grayson’s bisexuality in the process0. Grayson’s wife, Perdy (who is aware of her husband’s bisexuality) instantly concluded Paul and Grayson were secretly lovers, but once Paul convinced...

It's a slumber party for the big family of Walkers, in the next episode of "Brothers & Sisters". Also, just as Greenatopia gets the green light Sarah's business partner breaks some startling personal news and Nora rekindles a romance with an old flame, Roger (guest starring Nigel Havers). The episode called "It's Not Easy Being Green" will air January 18.
Meanwhile, the question on whether Balthazar Getty will exit from the show as Tommy Walker is still making rounds. Providing the latest hunch were Getty's co-stars, Matthew Rhys and Rachel Griffiths. Rhys aka Kevin Walker told E!, "I think the show is going through a slight transition period. How much we'll see him next season, I don't know." Griffiths aka Sarah meanwhile, said "We're a family. We'll get through it. And all I can say is we love him very dearly, and I'm seeing him on Monday, and I feel very good about that.
