Betty Lee Kim's first feature-length script, Lucky Star, was a semifinalist in the 2020 Academy Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting as well as NYWIFT's Writers Lab. In 2021 her script Hunter-Painters of the 1980s made the Nicholl quarterfinals. She received a BFA in painting and an MFA in fiction writing from Cornell University before studying film production at USC's School of Cinematic Arts, where she was awarded the 2006 James Bridges Scholarship in Directing for Yasin, a short film about an Arab-American boy whose father is detained after 9/11. Yasin has screened at festivals around the world including Berlin, Dubai, and Palm Springs. Kim was a Film Independent Project Involve writing & directing fellow in 2008.
