- Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Shawn Wayne Jones is an award-winning screenwriter, who in 2005 formed the production company, Maverick FiVe23 Films as a production banner for a feature length documentary film that began shooting in April of that year about young men who were paralyzed while playing high school football in Texas. In a 2003 high school playoff game between Austin Westlake and San Antonio Madison, Shawn witnessed standout Madison defensive back, David Edwards suffer a life changing spinal cord injury after colliding with a Westlake receiver. Shawn, himself a former San Antonio Madison defensive back, through media accounts, followed David's journey over the next year and was so moved by David's amazing positive attitude and the generous support offered by the Westlake community, David's Madison community, and corporate support offered by KB Homes among others, coupled with the emergence of a new spinal cord injury organization formed only a few months prior to David's injury called Gridiron Heroes; made him realize this story was more than worthy of being told on film. David Edwards' injury was also witnessed by "Friday Night Lights" director, Peter Berg, who was shooting footage and doing research for "FNL" that fall prior to principal photography. David was Peter Berg's inspiration behind creating the "Friday Night Lights" TV series, which premiered on NBC in the fall of 2006.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Anonymous
