Those who put "Dallas" on the air in its original 1978-91 CBS incarnation were quite savvy, since the title location has its own storied history.
Now that the war between the Ewings has been revived in the TNT update that returns for its third season Monday (Feb. 24), plenty of gifts are available for those who want to honor the show or the city. Or both.
Gifts Under $25
"Dallas" glass ($9.95): For proving you can hold your own drink against the best wheeler-dealers, this item displays the logo of the show that might have taught you how.
Texas belt buckle ($14.95): It might be a bit showy for a Ewing, but for anyone who wants to display state loyalty, here's one way to do it.
"Dallas" T-shirt ($24.95): The new generation of Ewing-family rivals is captured by the presence of Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe) and John Ross (Josh Henderson) on this garment.

On March 4, 2013, Dallas fans once again found themselves asking, “Who shot J.R.?” But this time, they knew he wouldn’t survive. How did exec producers Cynthia Cidre and Michael R. Robin orchestrate J.R. Ewing’s final scene without their beloved star, the late Larry Hagman? How did they decide to alter the show’s iconic theme song for the following episode to honor both the character and the actor? They revealed all to EW.com last winter. Revisit the conversation below.

A bit later than anticipated, "Dallas" still will restart all the usual drama at Southfork reasonably early in the new year.
Season 3 of the TNT reboot will begin Monday, Feb. 24 -- marking the first time in the history of the franchise, including the original 1978-91 CBS run -- that a year of the serial will begin without J.R. Ewing present as a major character. He died last season ... as did his portrayer, Larry Hagman, a year ago while those episodes were in production.
That doesn't mean there still isn't enough scheming to go around, though. The sons of J.R. and Bobby (Patrick Duffy), John Ross (Josh Henderson) and Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe), remain at odds with each other -- reinforced by their romances with the woman who's now an ex of both of them, Elena (Jordana Brewster).

Sure to surprise and please fans and admirers alike, AnnaLynne McCord of hits series "Nip/Tuck" and "90210" is coming to TNT as a long-lasting guest star on TNT's "Dallas."
TNT announced this evening (October 9) that the 26-year-old vixen will play Heather, a 20-something ranch hand with a troubled ex-husband and a 5-year-old son. Having grown up in a house with four brothers, Heather is quite capable of handling herself around the Southfork ranch hands, but when her ex-husband returns, bringing turmoil back into her life, Christopher steps in, helping Heather resolve the conflict, and the two become involved in a romantic relationship.
A cursory synopsis of the show tells us that "Dallas" follows the story of "The next generation of the Ewing family - cousins John Ross Ewing and Christopher Ewing - clash over the family's oil business and vast fortune."
In related news, AnnaLynn is hard at work on two upcoming movies,...

While we won’t see new episodes of Dallas until early 2014, I grabbed some time with stars Brenda Strong and Josh Henderson at the Turner 25th Anniversary Bash at the TCAs last week to get an idea of what's to come - and what they’d like to see – in the third season of the prime time soap.
First up: Strong talks humor, joining the action at Ewing Energies and who she’d like to see Ann connect with more...
-------------------------------------------
TV Fanatic: What can you tell me about Ann in Season 3?
Brenda Strong: The writers are busy sequestered behind closed doors and I would love to be a fly on the wall. I have no idea where we’re going. I have some intonation based on the cliffhangers from last season. We, of course, know that Jordana [Brewster, who plays Elena] has been ostracized and gone to the dark side to bring down some drug lord.

TNT has renewed "Dallas" for a third season.
Although last season saw the death of Larry Hagman (J.R. Ewing) and struggled in the ratings -- Season 2 averaged 2.6 million viewers -- the network said itw as excited for another season of drama at Ewing Energies.
"'Dallas' has built a passionately loyal following with its expertly woven storylines, clever twists and turns, and numerous outstanding performances by a cast that spans generations," Michael Wright, president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), said in a statement. "Although we said goodbye to Larry Hagman and his iconic character J.R. Ewing this year, 'Dallas' has many more stories left to tell, and the Ewing clan will continue to honor J.R.'s memory by keeping its audience surprised and delighted."
Josh Henderson (John Ross) tweeted about the renewal on Tuesday.
Guess what guys... New hash tag for ya.

Oddest Ad Campaign: Promos for The Mentalist tout that by season’s end, “only seven suspects will remain” in their on-going mystery. Only? That may not mean what you think it means!
Sudsiest Lawsuit: Production company Prospect Park filed a lawsuit alleging that ABC, in essence, set out to prevent returning soaps All My Children and One Life To Live from being successful. The Ewings pulled off an elaborate masterstroke to regain control of Ewing Energies and get revenge for J.R.'s death in the two-hour season finale of "Dallas." It was a testament to what this powerful family can do when they work together. Of course, in the aftermath of that unity, the cracks immediately started to show.
Their target was Cliff Barnes, who'd orchestrated a hostile takeover of Ewing Energies. The long-time foe to the Ewing family was outsmarted by J.R., working from the grave through his brother, Bobby. John Ross married Pamela, securing 1/3 of Barnes Global, while Christopher finally got definitive proof that his mother had died way back in 1989 -- Cliff had been paying off her then-husband to pretend she was still alive. With her will, Christopher gained another third of Barnes Global, and just like that the Ewings had controlling interest in both companies.
Meanwhile, Cliff was framed for J.

No other show has consistently made me laugh, cry, rail and cheer this year the way that Dallas Season 2 has.
As J.R. did his best to put down one family feud, another grew from its ashes in "Legacies."
It's hard to remember how many times J.R. crushed Cliff under his boot over the years. Is that how Barnes became this soulless monster we see now? Was it the hate Digger filled him with for all things Ewing?
In the end, having revenge against one family became more important than his nephew, his daughter, his own grandchildren - and even his freedom.
He deserved the Mexican prison J.R. sent him to from beyond the grave, but with Cliff's money I'll be surprised if he stays there for very long.
Everyone now saw Cliff clearly. Pamela knew he gave the order that murdered her unborn children and Christopher found...

Tonight on Dallas’ two-hour season finale (TNT, 9 p.m. Et), viewers find out who shot J.R.(Larry Hagman), whether the Ewings can complete J.R.’s “masterpiece” to take down Cliff Barnes and Harris Ryland, and if Victoria Principal has returned as Christopher’s mother, Pam. “People know I can’t be bought,” Patrick Duffy says, laughing when asked if he’s been offered bribes to reveal the answers early. “It’s very rare that somebody offers, like they did Larry in the old days. The Queen Mother apparently tried to bribe him. But we don’t get that...

It takes a lot to shock Dallas fans, but seeing Pamela Barnes (Julie Gonzalo) and John Ross Ewing (Josh Henderson) wed in Vegas this week — binding them and their respective shares in Barnes Global and Ewing Energies — did it. “I was sitting on a comfortable couch, and I was reading the episode,” Gonzalo says, “and I literally yelled, ‘What? The plotting and scheming on "Dallas" was reaching epic proportions in a two-hour installment this week. Cliff Barnes thought he was sitting pretty when he bought out Ewing Energies' bank loan. He gave them 24 hours to pay it off or they'd have to forfeit their company to him.
After the hefty government fine, and the shutting down of their oil pipeline, there was nothing the Ewings could do to stop him. But they had a backdoor plan, and it involved John Ross and Pamela. It took him a while, but John Ross finally convinced Pamela that her father was behind that oil rig explosion that had killed her unborn twins.

That almost everyone in "Love and Family" doubted those they loved wasn't a surprise - but the final I Do was a shocker.
Drew came clean to Elena and she was furious. He was pleading with her. If Ryland had him beaten in front of his own daughter it wasn't much of a stretch to believe he would have killed Elena and made Drew watch. Unfortunately, his sister wasn't very sympathetic as she snarled at her brother in this Dallas quote...
Drew: You take the job, it's don't ask, don't tell.
Elena: Spoken like a stupid mule. | permalink
The news put Elena in a horrible position. The bomb Drew delivered killed Christopher's unborn children. Suddenly the conversation Bobby had had with John Ross in "A Call to Arms" became relevant for Christopher and Elena. Would she chose her family or his?
In the end, she did a bit of both.

It was a "A Call to Arms" on Dallas this week,as the Ewings circled the wagons to ward off an attack by Cliff Barnes, Harris Ryland and the Governor himself. The question was, would it be enough?
The Governor was in Harris Ryland's back pocket but he was pushing back as he told Harris his gratitude would only go so far. Wouldn't it be great to watch these jackals turn on one another?
In their effort to stick with J.R.'s master plan, John Ross attempted to convince Pamela that Cliff was behind the rig explosion. He really needed to show her some sort of proof if he expected her to buy it. She'd never want to believe that her father was behind the death of her babies so it wasn't a surprise when she turned on John Ross.

Even though last week’s episode of Dallas made it look as though Pamela's twin babies were flat-lining after the trauma from the methane rig explosion, this is Dallas... so I wrongly assumed there might be a last minute reprieve and the babies would live.
What viewers will see moving forward will be the ripple effects of the losses with not only Pamela, but with Christopher, as well as the man who has been sharing her bed, Christopher’s cousin, John Ross.
During a recent visit to the Southfork Ranch, I was able to talk exclusively with Gonzalo, Metcalfe and Henderson about what the loss of Pamela’s babies mean for everybody in the coming episodes.
For Pamela - who may have had moments of using the babies as a way to keep herself tied to the Ewings - she definitely feels the pain when she miscarries.

On "Dallas," The Ewings are definitely united in the wake of the oil rig explosion, and the deaths of Christopher and Pamela's twin babies. But will they go down together? While it's been fun watching John Ross and Christopher fighting over Ewing Energies, they've come together against a common enemy more powerful than anyone realized. Cliff Barnes in collusion with both the governor and Ryland Harris.
Sue Ellen discovered that Ryland was the governor's biggest campaign contributor not long before the next phase of their master plan against the Ewings was realized. First, the investigation into the explosion by Tesha decided Ewing Energies was completely at fault, fining the company $1 billion. This despite Ken Richards telling Sue Ellen that there were two explosions distinctly heard.
Then came the big one. The Ewings received information that the government had seized the Henderson Well under eminent domain.

Family comes in many forms. It can be gracious and loving or cruel and manipulative. "Let Me In" showed all sides.
John Ross moved back in to Southfork, once again giving viewers the deliciously dysfunctional set up of multiple adult members of a family all living under one roof. It's one of the things that has always made Dallas such fun.
But Bobby was gracious as he gave his nephew a photo of J.R. and John Ross when he was just a boy and welcomed him home. Miss Ellie wanted John Ross to have half of the ranch and Bobby has always respected his momma.
Bobby encouraged the boys to wait for Tesha to conclude its investigation into the explosion on the methane rig, hoping that they would uncover the saboteur. Talk about wishful thinking. Instead, they found that Ken Richards had been silenced, Ewing technology was blamed and...

Damn you, Dallas. You made me cry... again. I wasn't expecting that.
"Guilt & Innocence" allowed the guilty to walk free as the innocent paid the ultimate price, while the ripple effects of the rig explosion went farther than anyone expected.
Very little good came out of the whole mess, but on the up side Bobby and Annie reconciled. Wondering whether or not his wife was alive or buried under the rubble was enough to put things back in perspective. My prediction is that these two will be stronger than ever from here on out.
Which will be helpful when dealing with Ann's daughter. It's not that I dislike Emma or that she doesn't have the right to sow some wild oats after living under the rule of her oppressive father and grandmother... but propositioning John Ross while they were waiting to hear if Pamela and her babies would survive was taking it too far.

It's not that I dislike Emma or that she doesn't have the right to sow some wild oats after living under the rule of her oppressive father and grandmother... but propositioning John Ross while they were waiting to hear if Pamela and her babies would survive was taking it too far.

Everyone took a step towards the dark side on tonight's Dallas - but some ventured closer to depravity as J.R.'s death made the "Ewings Unite!" and the Barnes family all but fall apart.
If anyone would have understood the reason for John Ross being late to the reading of his father's will, it was J.R. Ewing. I could hear him chuckling from the great beyond as Emma's last minute tryst featured John Ross sheepishly having all eyes on him because he was the last to enter the conference room.
When J.R. gave Gary his best bottle of Scotch I laughed out loud. He never could help himself from kicking Gary when he was down. That bottle was his final shot. There never was much brotherly love between those two.
J.R. had written that Sue Ellen would always have his heart and that he split his...

J.R. Ewing was laid to rest Monday in the funeral episode of Dallas, appropriately titled "J.R.'s Masterpiece." In homage to what has frequently been declared the greatest cliffhanger in TV history, last week's episode of the TNT reboot found Larry Hagman's character the victim of a gunshot from an unknown source, prompting the all-too-familiar question: Who shot J.R.? There weren't any answers during Monday's funeral episode, but viewers did see a heartfelt goodbye featuring tears, laughs and, of course, a little drama. At the wake for his father, John Ross (Josh Henderson)

But who really killed J.R.? That’s for Bobby to know, and for us to find out — eventually.
“I know it’s hard to accept, but J.R. Ewing is dead.” Those chilling words — spoken by some rando Mexican policewoman — set the stage for a truly depressing episode of Dallas, as the associates of Southfork, and the viewers who have been following J.R. (Larry Hagman) for more than 30 years, laid the TV icon to rest.
Even the opening title sequence was altered into a tribute to the late-great villain, with a down-tempo theme song and various glamour shots of J.R. His funeral also brought some of Southfork’s finest back to the ranch — including J.R.’s multiple ex-wives — to reminisce about the horrific good times.

Larry Hagman was at the center of one of the great TV cliffhangers of all time, so it's fitting that the "Dallas" episode that pays tribute to his character sets up another "Who shot J.R.?" mystery.
The TNT show's team has handled Hagman's unexpected death in November quite well to this point. Last week's episode used recycled footage to set up the death of J.R., but thanks to digital technology, those scenes took on a different look and feel and were scarcely noticeable. Now with Monday's (March 11) episode, the show has said goodbye to one of television's greatest characters by building another mystery around his death. Not only is it an appropriate sendoff for J.R., but it's also possibly reinvigorating for the show.
Season 2 has occasionally felt overly interested in the minutiae of John Ross' and Christopher's competing visions for Ewing Energies. Anne's storyline has provided...

The mystery behind J.R.'s death may have been "J.R.'s Masterpiece" - but it was his funeral that brought me to tears.
I've watched J.R. Ewing on my TV since I was about 8 years old, so Larry Hagman's portrayal of this charming, dastardly scoundrel will forever be seared into my memory. My only unfulfilled wish for this episode was that I would have loved to see clips from the original series, but maybe we'll be graced with that in the future.
Bobby, Sue Ellen, John Ross, and Christopher traveled to Mexico to identify J.R's body. Yes, it's definitely him but what the hell was he doing in Mexico when he was supposed to be in Abu Dhabi? Thankfully, some of those answers were revealed.
But first we saw everyone react to his death.

Warning: The following contains major spoilers from this week’s Dallas.
This week on TNT’s Dallas, the late and very great J.R. Ewing was paid his final respects, as many tears flowed. But it was what happened in the closing minutes that roused longtime fans from their somber mood and raised a big ol’ question:
Is Pamela Barnes Ewing really alive?!

Whether you’re a fan of Dallas past or present, tonight is the episode you won’t want to miss, as one of TV's greatest icons, Jr Ewing, is laid to rest.
However, in true soap fashion, the demise of the character is shrouded in mystery, propelling numerous stories forward in between mourning periods.
I was on the legendary Southfork Ranch set recently to chat with the cast about their memories of Larry Hagman and how their characters will deal with the passing of Jr. (And be sure to check back here tomorrow morning when you can find out how Executive Producers Cynthia Cidre and Michael Robin crafted tonight’s episode, along with what we can expect moving forward).

In many ways, Larry Hagman‘s final appearance on TNT’s Dallas… wasn’t.
Though the beloved actor had three scenes in last week’s episode — culminating with the moment in which J.R. was shot by an unseen assailant — each of those sequences was fashioned from preexisting footage and dialogue, as producers scrambled to reconfigure Season 2 in the wake of Hagman’s passing. Reflecting on the process, executive producer Cynthia Cidre tells TVLine, “‘Crafty’ is a good description” for what they pulled off.
But well before that bit of FX magic came into play, the Dallas brass needed to figure out how J.

Ray Richmond contributes to Deadline’s TV coverage. Fans of the Dallas reboot on TNT will find out who shot (and killed) the iconic villainous oilman J.R. Ewing, and they won’t need to wait an entire summer to solve the cliffhanger. Exec producer Cynthia Cidre promised this afternoon during a Dallas panel at PaleyFest 2013 in Beverly Hills that the unknown assailant will be revealed at the end of the 15th and final episode of Season 2 in May, avoiding the possibility a potential outcry from fans such as erupted over the tease perpetrated by the AMC drama The Killing. To do otherwise, Cidre maintained, “would be like putting this great meal in front of (fans) and then taking it away.” The decision was made to kill off J.R. when the man who played him so memorably over a span of 35 years, Larry Hagman, died on November 23rd from...

New York — Who killed J.R.?
That's the mystery propelling "Dallas" through the rest of its second season as a TNT revival.
And that question hangs heavy in the upcoming episode (airing Monday at 9 p.m. Edt), which confirms the sad truth every viewer knew was coming: glorious scoundrel J.R. Ewing has died, after decades of living-on-the-edge infamy dating back at least to 1980, when he was gunned down in his office and left for dead, with "Who shot J.R.?" the question on every viewer's lips for months afterward.
J.R.'s fate was sealed this time by the intrusion of reality. In November, Larry Hagman died of cancer at 81. And when he died, he took J.R. with him.
So the new episode – surely the first without Hagman's deliciously vile presence – stands as a fitting tribute both to him and to J.R., complete with a wake and...

It was the moments fans have known was coming since the death of Larry Hagman during filming on "Dallas" Season 2. This week, it was his final episode. Appropriately, his final communication was with his son and legacy on the show, John Ross. It was a positive exchange between the two that John Ross probably needed, as his latest schemes to undermine and bully Bobby and Christopher hadn't worked out as hoped.
John Ross got a call from J.R., who'd been overseas taking care of some business. But J.R. wasn't calling to lecture him about his failings. Instead, he said that he was taking care of some things. That it wasn't right for the son to pay for the sins of the father.
"I’m proud of you. You’re my son. From tip to tail," J.R. told John Ross. But before the conversation ended, John Ross heard gunshots on the line.

"The Furious and the Fast" featured events ending right where they began, in more ways than one.
It started with a standstill at Ewing Energies. Christopher and Bobby decided to play hardball. Bobby called in brother Gary and they terminated the lease that allowed the company to drill the oil on Southfork land. That oil seemed to be the companny's main source of income. It's what's keeping everything else running. Were they really thinking this would work?
John Ross and Sue Ellen threatened to sell Christopher's methane patent in retaliation, but they needed Pamela's swing vote to do it. In that moment, I really hated the fact that Cliff has so much pull with his daughter. Sometimes it feels like she has to run everything through Daddy.
I thought the race was silly... and I love racing. What did it prove exactly? Did winning a four car race really mean...

Jordana Brewster knows "Dallas" can get fast and furious, too.
Now in Season 2 of TNT's reboot of the classic serial, she sees it salute her popular movie franchise with Monday's (March 4) episode subtitled "The Furious and the Fast." Its thrust is something the actress knows a lot about: a car race, this one between Christopher and John Ross Ewing (Jesse Metcalfe, Josh Henderson), the antagonistic relatives Elena Ramos (Brewster) has been involved with romantically.
"I had a laugh out of it," Brewster tells Zap2it about her first glimpse of the story's name. "It was particularly funny to me because I was shooting the next 'Fast & Furious' at the same time I was shooting that 'Dallas' episode." Indeed, Brewster and fellow returnees Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson race into theaters again with "Fast & Furious 6" Friday, May 24.

The March 11 episode of TNT’s Dallas features J.R. Ewing’s funeral, but tonight’s hour (9 p.m. Et) is, according to the network’s promo, “the end of J.R. Ewing.” Haven’t been watching the reboot’s second season but want to take part in this pop culture moment? Here’s a quick primer:
1. While season 1 of TNT’s Dallas was about J.R. (Larry Hagman) and his son John Ross (Josh Henderson) scheming to steal Southfork from Bobby (Patrick Duffy), whose name is still on the deed, season 2 has revolved around John Ross and J.R.

New York — J.R. Ewing wouldn't hesitate to cheat his fellow man. He also famously cheated death.
In the second-season finale of "Dallas" back in 1980, he was shot by an unknown assailant in his office and left for dead. But he recovered nicely, and the cliffhanger question that gripped the nation (Who shot J.R.?) was answered that November in an episode seen by 80 million viewers.
This time, J.R. won't get off so easy. The second season of TNT's rebooted "Dallas" poses an even more dramatic question: Who killed J.R.?
Meanwhile, viewers will have to reckon with the loss of arguably TV's greatest villain, and bid farewell to the actor who portrayed him so indelibly and also cheated death for years. Larry Hagman, who died of cancer at 81 the day after Thanksgiving, was diagnosed in 1992 with cirrhosis of the liver from a life of heavy drinking and, three years later,...

At the time of Larry Hagman’s unexpected death on November 23, the Dallas team had five episodes of their sophomore season in the can that feature everybody’s favorite scamp J.R. Ewing. So after that most terrible surprise, executive producer Cynthia Cidre was tasked not just with mourning the loss of a television giant and friend, but also dramatically changing course on the fly. She had at her disposal an extra scene shot of Hagman that had been cut from an earlier episode and will now be inserted in episode 6. And then over three days she hand wrote episode 7, which will start exploring J.
