Lea St. Jean
- Additional Crew
Lea was born the youngest child and only girl of parents, Gloria
(deceased) and Ernest, just south of Boston, Massachusetts. Much of her
youngest childhood was gloriously spent dancing and singing in many
school stage productions. Early in her teen years her parents moved to
Rhode Island to retire and her focus changed to horses. She excelled
showing horses through out New England and toyed with the idea of
becoming a vet when she grew up.
However, the call of the stage was never drowned out. She was re-introduced to performing on stage in college with encouragement from a beloved college professor. Lea was part of her college's dance team and competed in Dance Alliance. She was also minorly involved with the college's award winning drama department.
Graduating with an excellent Liberal Arts degree with a focus on business and psychology, Lea entered the work force in the banking and financial services industry. Sales seemed to be her true calling and she was quickly recognized and promoted during her career at several large firms. Her free time was spent with her horses and writing stories, another childhood love. After taking a continuing ed writing class, her professor encouraged her to think about writing screenplays instead of novels and short stories.
As life sometimes does, in the course of just a few years, Lea lost her mother, was laid-off from two different Fortune 500 companies and suffered through some health problems of her own. She took this time to re-examine the direction of her life and rekindle the undying love she has for performing and the entertainment industry. Not having any practical film or writing experience she took a screen-writing seminar called ScriptBiz held in conjunction with the Rhode Island International Film Festival. This introduced her to the growing film community in Rhode Island.
Lea then took her existing business and sales experience to the local film industry and was quickly hired by the first film she interned for, Hard Luck. Currently she is involved with another Rhode Island production company, behind the scenes. She is involved with Providence Film Collaborative and continues to write screenplays and take writing classes to hone her craft. She is actively pursuing local opportunities both behind the scenes and in front of the camera.
