"Common Law" premiered on May 11 on USA and tried to reinvent the buddy cop drama. In the series, partners Travis Marks (Michael Ealy) and Wes Mitchell (Warren Kole) are having issues after five years as partners. Their boss (Jack McGee) makes them go to couples therapy after having success in the shrink's chair himself. These are the top detectives in the department. Of course they are. One is Ocd and by the books. The other is a free-wheeling rule breaker. Shocker.
This show has a lot of conventions. In particular, an annoying tendency to try to prove that they're not gay. (Something addressed in a wonderful Huffington Post article.) It's really not necessary to do that in 2012, is it?
That said, there is some fun chemistry between Kole and Ealy. There are moments that work. It's hard to judge a show on the first episode, especially when you're establishing characters.

Zap2it was lucky enough to visit the New Orleans set of the new USA series "Common Law." We got a tour of the locations and got to see how all the spots were transformed for the show. We also got a chance to chat with star Sonya Walger who plays Dr. Emma Ryan.
The show is about two cops, Travis Marks (Michael Ealy) and Wes Mitchell (Warren Kole) who are struggling to deal with their partnership after some difficulties. Their superior officer (Jack McGee) sends them to couples therapy. Dr. Ryan is the therapist they visit every week.
The pilot is really funny and fits perfectly into the USA show description "blue skies." There is struggle and genuine emotions but the show is funny! Especially the dry sense of humor Walger is known for. She joked about Ealy and Kole saying that watching them work is hysterical. "They play,...

Lost Penny Joins Common Law
It feels like it’s been awhile, but the woman everyone knows as Penny from Lost is coming back to television for USA’s Common Law. Sonya Walger is joining the buddy cop drama in a starring role as a therapist. This is her first series regular position since she starred on the short-lived science fiction series FlashForward in 2009.
Flashing forward (yeah I went there) to the present, we’ll see Walger working with both Warren Kole and Michael Ealy playing two homicide detectives who are sent to couples therapy after constant bickering between them becomes unbearable.
EW reports Walger’s character is named Dr. Emma Ryan. An extremely bright person, Emma graduated top of her class to start her own practice in Beverly Hills. Being a good-natured person, she couldn’t stand being a “pill dispenser” to her rich clients and began offering low-cost...

Penny has found a new constant.
Lost fan fave Sonya Walger has landed a role in USA Network’s upcoming buddy cop drama, Common Law. The actress — who most recently co-starred on ABC’s short-lived FlashForward — will play Dr. Emma Ryan, “a smart, attractive psychiatrist with a keen sense of humor,” EW.com reports.
Common Law stars Warren Kole (The Chicago Code) and Michael Ealy (Sleeper Cell) as constantly-quarreling detectives forced into couples therapy — hence Walger’s shrink.

Geek goddess Sonya Walger is coming back to TV: The Lost and FlashForward star has landed a series regular role in USA’s upcoming Common Law.
In the buddy cop drama, Warren Kole and Michael Ealy play homicide detectives whose constant quarreling gets them sent to couples therapy. Their shrink? Walger, who will co-star as Dr. Emma Ryan, a smart, attractive psychiatrist with a keen sense of humor. She graduated at the top of her class and started a practice in Beverly Hills but started to feel like a pill dispenser to her rich clientele. To fill the void, Dr.
