Big news for Marshall Curry, whose film Racing Dreams won Best Documentary at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival! According to Variety, DreamWorks is planning a feature film based on Curry's crowdpleasing doc about three tweens who are Nascar hopefuls, and two big names are already attached. Specifically, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the production team with the Midas touch, who wrote and produced Transformers, Star Trek, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, will be producing, although DreamWorks hasn't yet announced a writer or director for the project. (The film's original producing team will be involved, including Curry, Jack Turner, Bristol Baughan and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.) We're excited, and think this doc is ripe for adaptation! Read more about Racing Dreams from last year's festival here. Check out this video featuring interviews with the young stars, director Curry, and executive producer Dwayne Johnson.

NEW YORK -- Director Marshall Curry is following up his Oscar-nominated documentary "Street Fight" with two new nonfiction features: the aspiring NASCAR driver chronicle "Racing Dreams" and the true tale of an environmental arsonist, "If a Tree Falls".
"Dreams" will track three junior high school-age "extreme kart racers" through the World Karting Assn.'s Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series, a training ground for NASCAR hopefuls. Filming revs up this weekend at the X-Caliber Winter Nationals outside Charlotte, N.C., and climaxes at the Mobsteel Grand Nationals in Chapel Hill, N.Y., in September.
"Falls", a self-financed project shot by Curry during the past year, follows controversial environmental activist Daniel McGowan after his arrest and plea bargain for committing arson. Curry expects the film will be completed this fall.
"Dreams" is produced by Bristol Baughan and Ben Goldhirsh of media outfit Good along with Marshall Curry Prods. It was developed by Reason Pictures, which is now being absorbed by Good.
Baughan and Benjamin served as executive producers on "Son of Rambow", sold to Paramount Vantage in one of the biggest sales of this year's Sundance Film Festival.
