Roseau (Dominica), July 14 (Ians) India declared their first innings on 421/5 in 152.2 overs, taking a 271-run lead in the first Test against West Indies at Windsor Park Stadium, here on Friday.
India’s declaration post lunch means that West Indies have an hour and nearly eight minutes to bat in the second session.
With the ball turning and bouncing, it will be a difficult prospect for the West Indies to make India bat again, especially when Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja come out to bowl.
In the second session, Virat Kohli was out for 76 off Rahkeem Cornwall when he tried to flick on backfoot through leg-side, but the extra bounce took a thick inside edge to leg slip. Ishan Kishan’s introduction in Test cricket was a mix of defending, leaving and being beaten twice.

Roseau (Dominica), July 12 (Ians) Debutant left-handed batter Alick Athanaze showed some resistance and was looking like putting a price on his wicket before falling for 47 as India pocketed another session in their kitty by reducing West Indies to 137/8 in 58 overs at Tea on Day 1 of first Test at Windsor Park, here on Wednesday.
After picking four wickets in the first session, India picked four more wickets, two of which were taken by Ravichandran Ashwin, while conceding only 69 runs. The visitors’ are now just two wickets away to bowl out West Indies for a below-par total.
The hosts’ below-par batting effort was caused mainly by some reckless shot selection, including of an assured, calm and composed looking Athanaze. The batters were perishing when trying to attack on deliveries without showing adequate patience, leaving a lot left to be desired.

Roseau (Dominica), July 12 (Ians) West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and elected to bat first against India in the first Test of the two-game series at Windsor Park, here on Wednesday.
Left-handed batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan are making their Test debuts for India. While Jaiswal will open the batting alongside India captain Rohit Sharma, Kishan will bat in the middle-order and be the wicketkeeper too.
For the West Indies, left-handed batter and local lad Alick Athanaze is making his Test debut.
“Surface is generally dry, but there’s moisture in the first hour. We had a ten-day camp in Antigua. (Brian) Lara (performance mentor) was there, that was good for our young batters. We had seen ourselves in good positions in the last (two Wtc) cycles. What we need is consistency and putting it together. Want the boys to be positive,” said Brathwaite at the toss.

With Mi needing 17 off the last over, David started off in a brilliant fashion as he cracked a flat six over long off, off the first ball bowled by Jason Holder. He then plundered a full toss over deep mid-wicket...

Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal (38) helped Rajasthan Royals blast 57/1 in Power-play and take them to 87/1 in ninth over but Jadeja claimed two wickets — getting Padikkal and Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson (0) in quick succession on a pitch that offered turn and bounce as Csk fought back to take control of the match. Chennai’s rookie pacer Akash Singh, who claimed his first two wickets in Ipl for 40 runs and Tushar Deshpande bagged 2-37 as the hosts managed to restrict the once-galloping Royals.

Chennai, April 12 (Ians) Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss in his 200th match as Chennai Super Kings captain and decided to bowl first against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 at the Ma Chidambaram Stadium here on Wednesday.
Dhoni said the reason he decided to field first as he expects the pitch to be slightly on the slower side and the dew will come into play later in the evening.
“It will be slightly on the slower side. There could be dew around. Feels good [to lead for the 200th time]. The crowd was fantastic. The new stadium is like playing in Switzerland. We have seen cricket change. Feels good to have survived for so long and it’s a format we have to keep evolving. Important to get rid of mistakes in the later stages,” Dhoni said at the toss.

Johannesburg, March 29 (Ians) A career-best 83 off 44 balls by Reeza Hendricks was not enough for South Africa as they fell to a seven-run defeat to West Indies in the decisive third and final T20I at the Wanderers Stadium, here.
The right-hander thumped two sixes and 11 fours in his sparkling innings, before becoming one of Alzarri Joseph’s five victims after falling in the penultimate over as the run-rate began to soar in South Africa’s pursuit of 221.
In the end South Africa finished with 213/6, seven short of what would have been another epic chase as they slipped to a 2-1 series defeat to the West Indies.
At the start, the Proteas tried to follow the trend of the series where the chasing side had won each of the previous two games, with captain Aiden Markram winning the toss and bowling first.

Adelaide, Dec 8 (Ians) Fantastic centuries by Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head led Australia’s domination over West Indies as hosts racked up 330/3 on the opening day of the second (pink-ball) Test at Adelaide Oval, here on Thursday.
Labuschagne (120) and Head (114) were unbeaten at the crease when play was stopped on Day 1. They had put on an unbeatable 199-run stand for the fourth-wicket.
After Australia won the toss and opted to bat, it was an ominous beginning for the visitors despite dismissing David Warner (21) cheaply once more.
Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja then took full toll on the West Indies bowlers and it forced visitors to introduce the spin of Roston Chase inside the 10th over with no success. Khawaja quickly moved into 40s before West Indies bowled three maidens but they weren’t rewarded for the pressure.

Hobart, Oct 20 (Ians) West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder insisted that despite the permutations and combinations around what the final look of a tense Group B table would be, his side are up for the challenge against Ireland and are eager to winning their last first round match in Icc Men’s T20 World Cup in a solid fashion to get into Super 12.
West Indies’ didn’t have an ideal start to their run in T20 World Cup, losing by 42 runs to Scotland, leading to their head coach Phil Simmons lashing out at the unprofessionalism with the bat. With everything on line against Zimbabwe on Wednesday, West Indies rode on brilliance from him and Alzarri Joseph to get a 31-run win at the Bellerive Oval.

After making 153/7 in their 20 overs, with Sikandar Raza’s brilliant 3/19 causing a middle-order meltdown, West Indies didn’t have a good start to their defence as Zimbabwe’s stand-in captain Regis Chakabva hit three fours in an 18-run opening over off Kyle Mayers. Joseph, who took career-best figures of 4/14 in his four overs, struck in his second over after conceding 11 runs in the opening over as Chakabva chopped on to his stumps.

Hobart, Oct 19 (Ians) Sikandar Raza starred with a brilliant spell of 3/19, triggering a West Indies collapse as the two-time champions set a 154-run target for Zimbabwe in a must-win Group B match in the first round of Icc Men’s T20 World Cup at Bellerive Oval on Wednesday.
Electing to bat first, West Indies started well despite losing Kyle Mayers in the fourth over, top-edging a pull to keeper off Blessing Muzarabani. Johnson Charles (45) and Evin Lewis (15) shared a vital 49-run stand off 38 balls to get the innings back on track.
But Zimbabwe’s introduction of Raza from the seventh over triggered a West Indies meltdown in the middle-order. The off-spin all-rounder had his first scalp in the tenth over when Lewis holed out to long-on. Captain Nicholas Pooran was next to depart, falling to Sean Williams, chipping back a simple catch to the bowler.

Hobart, Oct 18 (Ians) West Indies allrounder Jason Holder is not happy with his teammates having immense talent but not being able to ‘execute’ it on the cricket field, which led to the embarrassing 42-run defeat to Scotland in the Icc T20 World Cup on Monday.
A day after Cricket West Indies (Cwi) apologised to its fans worldwide for the abysmal display in the First Round Group B match against Scotland at the Bellerive Oval here, Holder was scathing in his remarks ahead of the team’s clash against Zimbabwe on Wednesday, saying there’s no pride in just being called talent cricketers.
“Look, I think tomorrow (match v Zimbabwe) would determine if the chats and discussions (in the dressing room following the loss) were fruitful. We just need to deliver. It’s no uncertain terms about it. I think we’ve got what it takes to win this competition within our dressing room.
