Sony Crackle has set Thursday, February 21 for the Season 2 premiere of crime drama series The Oath, created by Joe Halpin and executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The network also released first-look images from the second season (see above and below).
The Oath explores a world of gangs made up of those sworn to protect and defend. Shedding light on corrupt and secret societies nearly impossible to join, only the chosen few make the cut—and once inside, members do what they must to shield each other from enemies who attack from both outside and within their own ranks. The sophomore season picks up with the Ravens attempting to free themselves from their debt to the cartel. Themes including redemption and the meaning of family are examined in season two pushing the characters to find a new path, conquer their inner demons and giving them one last chance to...

Wayward Pines, Season 1, Episode 6, “Choices”
Written by The Duffer Brothers and Brett Conrad
Directed by Jeff T. Thomas
Airs Thursdays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
After the events of “The Truth,” it’s understandable that the next installment of Wayward Pines would feel like the series was coming back down to earth. So much information was thrown at the viewer, and done so in a manner that exceeded all previous acting and directing efforts on the series, that it set a bar which successive episodes would continue to grasp at. As such, while “Choices” isn’t perfect, its flaws are ones that are largely forgivable because of the position it occupies in the series’ running order, rather than anything it does narratively or in terms of performance.
The main problem with “Choices” is that the bulk of the episode is a healthy dose of exposition. “The Truth” was similarly heavy on telling instead of showing,...

The Blacklist, Season 1, Episode 15: “Last Call”
Directed by Jeff T. Thomas
Written by Dan Dietz
Airs Tuesdays at 10pm Et on CBS
Some episodes can have all of the elements that should make a perfectly effective hour of television, and would for most TV shows, but for whatever completely subjective reason, they don’t seem to work nearly as much as they should. In the case of “Last Call”, the pieces should theoretically work and yet, perhaps due to how they come together throughout the episode, the episode just doesn’t work, plain and simple.
The biggest and most significant problem with the episode is the villain, an over-the-phone kidnapper that forces a 911 dispatcher (Melissa Sagemiller) to delete phone call records lest he blow up a boy. This villain, who we never learn the name of and only ever hear, is perhaps the most melodramatic, over-the-top presence that the...

Almost Human, Season 1, Episode 6: “Arrhythmia”
Written by Alison Schapker
Directed by Jeff T. Thomas
Airs Mondays at 8 P.M. Et on Fox
Marketing and advertising never promised that Almost Human wasn’t a cop show and that it wouldn’t touch on clichéd plotlines somewhere along its first season run. What it did promise, however, was that each episode would tackle any subject thrown its way in a unique and original fashion. And so far, it hasn’t disappointed in that respect. Mysterious criminal organizations, human trafficking, bank heists, hostage negotiations, drug trafficking, and compromised murder trials have at one time or another been the focus of every crime drama and cop show in existence, including this show. “Arrhythmia” takes a look at another procedural standby- black market organ operations- and injects its trademark brand of intrigue and humor into the proceedings.

Fringe Episode 503
“The Recordist”
Written By: Graham Roland
Directed By: Jeff T. Thomas
Original Airdate: 12 October 2012
In This Episode...
Astrid digs the first tape out of the amber - which is actually tape three. No one is really surprised that Walter would hide them out of order. The tape is a little warped, but they get coordinates that send them out to rural Pennsylvania. In the middle of nowhere, they are “captured” by tree people - humans who live in the forest and have a creeping bark-like fungus on their skin. Walter, Olivia, Peter, and Etta are brought to the tree people’s encampment, where the “leader,” Edwin, recognizes Walter.
This encampment is where the history lives. When the invasion started, Edwin and a clan of followers headed into the forest to live off the grid and record every major event since - all on super high-tech glowy cubes. Fringe...

Fringe Review, Season 5, Episode 3: “The Recordist”
Written by Graham Roland
Directed by Jeff T. Thomas
Airs Fridays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
This week, on Fringe: The team follows the first, well, third, Betamax and find what is hopefully some red Observer kryptonite
The Great Betamax Hunt is on and this week, it takes our heroes to the forest, which apparently still exists in this overly mechanized future. As in the past two episodes, “The Recordist” favors character moments over action, making it at this point perhaps the most talky sci-fi series since Star Trek: the Next Generation. That’s not to discount the story we get this week, but while the notion of a community of people documenting the human perspective of this new world is interesting, and the father-son story is compelling, it’s hard not to argue that the show is beginning to feel stagnant.
