Phil Mazo received a 2024 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for the category of Film in the amount of $16.5K. He was among 76 artists selected from 692 eligible applicants in six artistic disciplines to be awarded.
He singlehandedly created "I'm Phil", which won the 2022 Coney Island Film Festival for Best Comedy Short. Phil's shorts have also screened at the Montclair Film Festival and the Lighthouse International Film Festival.
Stretching beyond comedy, he made "the msg" - a heartfelt, sci-fi short after the death of his father.
As the first American-born family member of Soviet refugees, Phil's drawn inspiration from his background by producing Russian-language content such as the short film "Upside Down" and a series on the poetry of Nikolai Shatrov.
A veteran "burner", Phil stitched together footage and photos from his 2022 participation at Burning Man to create a mini-doc of his experience.
Comedy:
Phil has written and performed on The Howard Stern Show.
He's toured as a standup comedian throughout the US, Canada, and as far away as New Zealand - and performs improv comedy as well.
Four of Phil's original bits were published in "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Jokes".

Phil enjoys producing music, singing, and playing classical piano.
Other hobbies include drawing portraits and renovating his 130-year-old house.
Beyond Phil's fluency in Russian, he's also conversant in Spanish and is learning Italian, French, German, and Ukrainian.
Phil received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Cornell University, where he was also the cartoonist for The Cornell Daily Sun newspaper.
