- A native of Baltimore, Maryland, John Steadman attended high school at Baltimore City College and briefly played minor league baseball before getting a job as a reporter for the Baltimore News-Post in 1945. He spent more than fifty years as a sports reporter, sports editor and columnist for the News-Post, the Baltimore News-American and the Baltimore Sun.
