- John M. Weiskopf grew up in S.E. Washington D.C., moved to College Park, MD, then to San Diego in 1975. He received his MFA from UCLA graduate Film School in 1985 where he produced, directed, and shot the first documentary in the U.S. on elder abuse, Ready or Not, Here I Come. It aired on national television through Ted Turner's WTBS, then PBS aired the film nationally. Weiskopf subsequently appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show as a guest filmmaker.
UCLA Film & Television Archives placed John Weiskopf's Elder Abuse film that aired on Ted Turner WTBS, PBS, and national news interviews into their archives. While at UCLA, Weiskopf was a producer a film for Peter Glaws Productions Inc. called Pregnancy on the Rocks: Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Weiskopf co-wrote and did some cinematographer on the project.
He later established a company called the Aeolian Film Group which optioned screenplays and developed motion picture feature films in a variety of genres. In 2012, he and his wife Judy moved back to the Maryland/Washington D.C. area where both his and his wife's family live. Weiskopf did a national book-signing tour at Barnes & Nobel stores in 2007 & 2008 across the United States for his novel "The Ascendancy" an original contemporary sci-/fantasy novel. Shortly thereafter, Weiskopf wrote the adapted screenplay called "The Ascendancy", then in 2016 developed the episodic television series based upon the novel. The "Ascend" series is active development. He has written other sole-author screenplays, 63 and "Listen in the Dark." He wrote two screenplays with Chris Kobin, "The Asphalt Diamond" and "Comfy." He wrote a dark comedy, mystery thriller with Thomas Allen Nelson called "The Complex."
In 2012, John and his wife Judy moved back to the Washington D.C. area to be with aging parents. He teaches advanced screenwriting, Writing the Feature Film and Writing & Designing the Episodic Television Series at American University in the School of Communications where he is a professorial lecturer, adjunct professor.
