His latest feature film 'Moon rock for Monday' which after a screening in Cannes, worldwide rights were picked up by EOne owned Seville International off-shoot company; Wazabi Films and sold to Cinedigm in North America in 2021. With an impressive 8 wins and 24 nominations the film was a hit on the festival circuit playing at Zurich Film Festival, Beijing Film Festival, Busan Film Kids Festival, Adelaide Film Festival and CinefestOz to name a few. It also earned Hanns a nomination at the prestigious AACTA Awards for best cinematography in December 2021 as well as winning the Two Top FIPRESCI (The International Federation of Film Critics) at Schlingel, Germany from a panel of independent judges from several European countries. Furthermore 'Moon rock for Monday' won the the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) Gold State Award and National High Distinction Award for Best Indie Film for Cinematography in 2022.
Completing his Masters at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) in 2008 with the prestigious 'High Achievement in Cinematography' award his 35mm film 'Bleeders' was selected by an esteemed panel at Camerimage in Poland to represent Australia in the short film category for the Golden Tadpole award.
Throughout his career, Hanns has worked on a wide variety of projects, from television shows and documentaries to independent feature films. His work has been recognised with numerous awards including several Gold ACS (Australian Cinematographers Society) and a handful of AACTA nominations for Best Cinematography.
Hanns is known for his ability to collaborate closely with directors and other members of the film crew to create a cohesive and visually stunning final product. He often uses a combination of traditional and digital techniques to achieve the perfect look for a scene, and is always looking for new and innovative ways to push the boundaries of what is possible in filmmaking.
