Simon Brugola
- Producer
Born in Milan, Italy, he lived in a small hill-top town in Brianza (a
huge green area of more than 870 square km, north of Milan) until 1990,
when he moved to Toronto, Canada. He started out in '93 as a DJ first
spinning dance, house and later on trance, progressive house and even
some happy hardcore. He then did some PR work and one-night event
production along with some friends. In 1999 with the help of a good
friend he started K-Recordings, an independent label focused on house
and trance music. The first release was Italy's own Jola "Moon & Sun",
a European dance chart-topper in '98. He loved Jola's vocal skills so
much that he decided to have her track remixed by Saint Pete, at the
time Toronto's freshest and finest trance DJ. With a special agreement
with Jola's label and her producers, he was granted permission to remix
the track and the result was an excellent example of uplifting trance
at its best. When K-Recordings started suffering lack of sales due to
the increased popularity of digital file sharing, Simon decided to
close the label. In 2003 he was selected to be in the production crew
of a movie titled " The Long Weekend". He was initially selected as
production assistant but during the job interview he was offered to be
the Producer's Assistant. The movie was shot entirely on DV and it's
during that time that he developed a great interest in DV editing on
Apple's Final Cut Pro. At the beginning of 2004 he took a professional
training class to learn Final Cut Pro (FCP). He first started editing
home videos, then his editing skills got noticed and the first contract
arrived followed by many others. In mid 2004 Simon moved back to his
beloved Brianza and continued working as a DV editor of several
project. His most famous to date is the contract he did for Telecom
Italia editing weekly 5-mins promo reels that were broadcast on Alice
Home TV, Italy's Video-on-Demand network. In 2006 he started working
his friend Paolo on the production of a song titled 'Acqua Pura',
written by Paolo himself. For the original version Simon did the
programming, arrangement and created the rhythm section and additional
melody. Simon also created a dance remix of 'Acqua Pura' which Paolo
really liked and gave around to all his friends. At the end of 2008
Simon was approached by a young producer that was co-writing the first
album for the upcoming duo The Oder Side. The first job he was offered
was to edit a music video for the duo. Later, in 2009 the producer
approached him again saying that she really liked his remix of 'Acqua
Pura' and wanted to have their first single "Destini" remixed by him as
well. Simon finished production on the extended version of "Destini" in
October 2009, turning the track from an ordinary pop tune to a groovy
and much more interesting tune with a fresh summer feel to it. As a
matter of fact, it's set to be released in March 2010.. Just in time
for the summer.
