Hello, everyone! August 23rd is a quiet day for horror and sci-fi home media releases, but that doesn’t mean that this week’s offerings aren’t pretty darn great all the same. Scream Factory has put together a killer Collector’s Edition 4K release for Neil Marshall’s Dog Soldiers and Kino Lorber has put together reissues of their Blu-ray box sets for seasons one and two of The Outer Limits, which genre fans will definitely want to pick up.
Cheers!

The Frightfest Guide To Vampires Photo: Fab Press
The sixth book in a successful series, The Frightfest Guide To Vampire Movies explores one of the most enduringly popular subjects in the horror genre, looking at films from all over the world, from the silent era to the present day. It’s scheduled to launch at this year’s festival and was written by author and film historian Nathaniel Thompson. He and I met up ahead to the launch to chat about the book and the story behind it.
“I used to work with Harvey at Fab Press on another book series that I did called DVD Delirium, which we did four volumes of several years back,” he explains. “I love the Frightfest books. I’ve got every single one of them. And I love Alan Jones and Gavin Baddeley, they're just fantastic writers. And then Harvey said, you know, ‘Would...

The film itself talks about, in some detail, the career of Michael Reeves, the groundbreaking folk horror filmmaker who gave us Witchfinder General and The Sorcerers, and talks about his life, the mark he left as a director and his premature death at the young age of just 25. With a variety of exclusive interviews we learn about the things that Michael loved, his passions in his life, including his obsession with film, as this analysis of his career and the situation surrounding his death are discussed.

The Frightfest Guide To Werewolf Movies
What springs to mind when you think about classic movie monsters? For most people, werewolves will be in there somewhere. They’re astoundingly prolific – every decade has its famous werewolf films. Now former music journalist Gavin Baddeley has assembled The Frightfest Guide To Werewolf Movies, a compendium of reviews of some of the most important entries in the genre and a history of how they developed. In the run-up to this year’s Frightfest, we sat down to have a chat about the subject and how it all began for him.
“Lifelong lycanthropy obsessive is a bit of hyperbole but not that much. I’ve loved monsters since I was a kid and for some reason the Wolf Man and werewolves were always my favourite. Frankenstein, vampires, the mummy, they’re all great too, but for some reason werewolves are special. If I’m honest,...

Vampire Lovers; Screen’s Seductive Creatures of the Night
Vampire Lovers, now your probably thinking why in the world am I reviewing a book with a title like that. Well my friends titles can be deceiving.
In Gavin Baddeley’s Vampire Lovers, he documents the history of the sexiest vampires in film and TV.
If you are a lover of the vampire genre this is a must for your collection. From the newest vampire phenomenons like Twilight and True Blood, to the classics like Dark Shadows, The Lost Boys, Christopher Lee and Bela Lugosi, Mr. Baddeley gives every vampire lover something to like in this book.
Mr. Baddeley did his homework, this is a meticulously researched and informative book. I learned more about Twilight in it’s few short pages than I would have cared to. Not that, that is a bad thing, it gives me a different perspective on the newest sparkly vampire fad.

The fall screenings and film events are in full-swing, and Fango just got the full details on Abertoir, the National Horror Festival of Wales, which will hold it's 4th Annual event at Aberystwyth Arts Centre from November 4th – 8th in the UK.
Check out the full details in the press release below.
Over the past years Abertoir has not only hosted premieres and international genre stars, but also helped to launch the careers of directors such as Marc Price. Marc juggled making his debut film - Colin - with his job at a courier firm and he wrote, directed and produced the entire film for almost nothing. Colin was screened at Abertoir 2008 and as a result came to the attention of sales agent Helen Grace. Helen urged Marc to take the film to Cannes where it wowed the critics and won a deal for nationwide release: Colin will be released...

Few rule the Metal realm like Cradle Of Filth. Between a musical catalog big enough to fill a mom and pop record shop (it's still growing may I add), an extended assortment of controversial merchandise and the constant media coverage, it's practically impossible to have missed the Metal phenomenon fronted by former Metal Hammer Magazine contributing writer Dani Filth.
Filth, who's played a hand in just about every aspect of entertainment you can imagine, has once again temporarily sidestepped the extremely familiar Musical Avenue, traveling rather, down Literature Lane. His latest venture, an historical look at horror, it's documented conception, and profound influence upon the Metal genre - particularly Cradle Of Filth - comes to us in the form of a beautifully articulate book co-written by world renown Satanist Gavin Baddeley.
The book features more than history and band facts however. In store for readers is a wealth of Dani's poetic passages,...
