- On American Idol for the final group of 8 he was in, he got into the top 12 with 29% of the votes.

Though judge Simon Cowell normally frowns on gimmicks, he sensed that John had real talent under the Rat Pack posturings and actually asked him to sing again, this time as himself. After he performed a smooth rendition of "The Way You Look Tonight," the judges unanimously agreed to let him through to the next round.
