- Perhaps best remembered for the infamous play in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series where a ground ball hit by Mookie Wilson went through Buckner's legs, extending the series, which was won by the New York Mets. Charlie Sheen bought the ball for more than $93,000 in 1992.

- Led the National League in doubles, 1981 (35) and 1983 (38).
- Led the National League in batting average in 1980 (.324).
