For the second consecutive year, the Saban Community Clinic is honoring individuals who impact the creator economy both in front of and behind the camera. The largest provider of free and reduced-cost health care in Los Angeles is bringing back its Creators in Action gala, which celebrates digital media leaders while raising money to support the clinic’s operations.
The 2024 Creators in Action will be held on June 3, with The Studio by Tishman Speyer in Beverly Hills serving as the host venue. The two honorees occupy different corners of the creator economy, but they will both be feted for the work they have done to grow and expand the social ecosystem.

Note: This article is based on Variety Intelligence Platform’s special report “Generative AI & Entertainment,” available only to subscribers.
The rapidly advancing creative capabilities of generative AI have led to questions about artificial intelligence becoming increasingly capable of replacing creative workers across film and TV production, game development and music creation.
Talent might increasingly view and use generative AI in more straightforward ways as simply a new creative tool in their belt, just as other disruptive technologies through time have entered and changed how people make and distribute their creative work.
In effect, there will still — and always — be a need for people to be the primary agents in the creative development process.
“Talent will incorporate AI tools into their existing processes or to make certain aspects of their process more efficient and scalable,” said Brent Weinstein, chief development officer at Candle Media, who has worked extensively with content companies...

Vidcon CEO Jim Louderback promises that this year’s annual online video confab won’t become a corporate branding exercise for Viacom after it acquired the conference last February.
“We were both really clear during the sale that they didn’t want to change us and we didn’t want to be changed,” Louderback said in a phone interview. “Because if you do that, you’re going ruin it.”
Expected to draw 35,000 people, the event is in its ninth iteration and will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center June 20-23. It has evolved into a massive multi-day event featuring panel sessions for industry leaders and content creators, digital stars, fans, numerous parties and even a concert by Marshmello, the American DJ and electronic music producer. That’s a far cry from the conference’s more meager beginnings in a ballroom at a Century City hotel with just 1,400 attendees.

A new company fronted by former UTA agent Brent Weinstein is launching the biggest slate of professionally produced originals to ever hit the Internet.
60Frames Entertainment is introducing seven shortform video series that feature contributions from writers and talent drawn from TV programming at NBC and Comedy Central. The slate is the first wave of as many as 50 different series that will go online this year, with more contributions to come from Hollywood veterans including Joel and Ethan Coen, Tom Fontana and John August.
"If we can have a batting average that is as good or better than traditional media companies, than we'll do well," Weinstein said.
Rather than rely solely on a single destination site, 60Frames will syndicate its series via a range of major online hubs, including MySpace, iTunes, Bebo and YouTube. 60Frames makes money through advertising revenue splits with those distribution partners, which retain control of ad sales, though 60Frames eventually will sell its own sponsorships through Internet ad agency Spot Runner.
First announced in July, 60Frames was incubated by Spot Runner and UTA while Weinstein was still at the agency as head of its online division.

Kuma Reality Games has signed with UTA in a move designed to develop new entertainment concepts by marrying Kuma's unique episodic game production system with television properties. The game publisher and developer is best known for "Kuma: War", a 3-D action game offered as a series of weekly missions based on or inspired by such events as the John Kerry Swift Boat missions and the capture of Uday and Qusay Hussein. Kuma will work with UTA's games and interactive agents, Jonathan Epstein and Brent Weinstein.
