- Hugo Camps was born on May 12, 1943 in Molenstede, Flanders, Belgium. He died on October 29, 2022 in Knokke, Flanders, Belgium.
- In 1988 he became Knight in the Order of Leopold II.
- After studying philosophy at the Catholic University of Leuven, he worked as a (war) reporter in Vietnam, Chile, - where he covered the 1973 coup d'état - , and the Middle East.
- From 1976 till 1985 he was editor-in-chief of Het Belang van Limburg.
- From the 1990s, he worked freelance for Dutch and Belgian media. He was a columnist and interviewer for De Morgen, P-magazine and VRT, among others. He ran from one deadline to another. From sports to politics to an interview with Hugo Claus' widow, he was at home on all markets. He collected these texts in some 15 books.
- On 2 March 2016 - he became Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. This was as a celebration of this 30th anniversary with Elsevier Weekblad. That day, in the presence of among others, the former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt, he was awarded this order by the Dutch ambassador to Belgium, Maryem van den Heuvel, during her residence in Brussels.
