Born in Malta in 1972, Zahra's repertoire is very versatile, ranging
from chamber music to symphonic works and electronic music. All of his
compositions convey a proficiency in melody and an accomplished sense
of orchestration rooted in the classical tradition. In 1998 he
graduated in composition and orchestration from the National Music
Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome - Italy. His orchestral works have
been performed by the Slovak Philharmonic, the Britten Sinfonia (UK)
and the National Orchestra of Malta.
In Italy Zahra studied film music with Academy Award winning composer; Ennio Morricone. As a composer and orchestrator Zahra worked for dance, theater and film in Malta, Italy, Austria, South Korea and the USA. In Malta Zahra has achieved national success as a composer. He often works for the Ministry of Culture in Malta as artistic director to organize national events and international festivals.
In 2000 Zahra released his first CD entitled Nafra featuring a variety of World Music compositions. In this CD Zahra utilizes traditional Mediterranean music as the basis for a series of Classical, Jazz and Rock variations. Nafra has been broadcast on radio stations in Malta, France, UK (BBC), Australia, USA , Japan and Russia.
