Screen Australia has selected five teams to take part in this year's Springboard: Short Film Initiative and potentially receive $150,000 production funding.
The five directors - Christopher Weekes, Hannah Moon, Tom McKeith, Darlene Johnson and Liselle Mei - and their teams will now develop a short film script that will showcase their developed feature film screenplay. Three of the shorts will then receive $150,000 funding.
Weekes is perhaps the best known after making his debut feature Bitter & Twisted in 2008, which he followed by topping the influential Black List (which ranks Hollywood film executives. views on the best unproduced movie scripts) in 2009 with The Muppet Man. Chinese-American actress and director Joan Chen is set to work in both capacities on the three-story anthology feature "Seeing Red" reports Screen Daily.
Chen will star in and helm one of three separate revenge stories about women in New York’s Chinatown. Chen will play a devoted housewife who discovers her husband is living a double life.
Liselle Mei helms one of the other segments, while a third female director will be added soon.
Joyce Pierpoline and Richard Lormand are producing. The $4-6 million project shoots later this Fall and will be a mix of English and Mandarin.
