- In recent years she has worked to promote chess for children as an educational tool. She has written two children's books on chess.
- She is generally considered the best female chess player in history. She began winning international tournaments when she was 9 years old. At 15, she became the youngest-ever international chess grandmaster, a distinction previously held by Bobby Fischer.
- In 2013 she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary Commander's Cross with Star.
- Her two sisters, Susan and Sofia, are also accomplished chess players.
