Hailing from Philadelphia, Pa., Stubbs is an up and coming director bred by New York University's legendary graduate film school. He has worked with the likes of Will Smith, Bill Cosby, Spike Lee, Coolio, Omar Epps, Anthony Anderson, etc.
His second year film at NYU, "Peace and Quiet," featuring veteran actors Giancarlo Esposito and Cynda Williams, was licensed and distributed by Carousel Films. This poignant drama won the Post Production Grant Award from Warner Bros. Pictures.
In television, Stubbs has shot comedy concerts featuring Sinbad, Kim Coles ("Living Single") and Chris Rock ("Saturday Night Live") and several news stories which have aired on the local PBS station WHMM in Washington, D.C. He also has done stints at Black Entertainment Television and "The Cosby Show." In terms of music videos, he directed Solar Records Recording artist Tavaris, debut video, Straight Butta featuring Coolio. Straight Butta, as well as all his other music videos have all aired on MTV, BET and The Box and all have also hit top ten in BET's Rap City.
Stubbs graduated cum laude from Howard University in Washington, D.C., earning a Bachelor of Arts in Film Production, with a minor in Theater Arts. While at Howard University, Stubbs exhibited plays in several festivals and directed several films, including "Shaniqua" which earned him the Tisch School of The Arts Scholarship Award at NYU.
"Shaniqua" features the budding actress Paula Jai Parker who starred in "Friday" with Ice Cube and the critically acclaimed film "Hustle & Flow." With "Shaniqua" as his first effort, Stubbs' skill to spot talent is apparent. With such sensibilities, he has a promising future assembling his team to deliver creative and sound productions with a strong and clear voice.
Stubbs' comedic short film, "Jerked," starring Eugene Byrd, whose credits include, Curtis Hanson's film, "8 Mile" and more recently recurring roles on, the network television dramas; "Bones," "Heroes," and "Crossing Jordan." "Jerked," garnered Stubbs a Finalist Position in Disney's prestigious Director's Training Program.
Stubbs received his MFA in Film Production from NYU, and garnered the NYU Departmental (Award for Excellence in Screenwriting.) He completed Sony Pictures first computer animated movie blockbuster, "Stuart Little," as the visual effects coordinator. Universal Home Video is currently distributing his directorial debut, the feature film "With or Without You" starring: Cynda Williams, Guy Torry, Victor Williams and Wendy Raquel Robinson. The film has aired on the Encore and STARZ cable networks and nationwide on the ABC network. Stubbs recently finished directing the 8 episode TV variety show "Running The Streets" currently being shopped for distribution.
