Politics in Argentina are volatile. The 20th century brought six coups and restrictions on democracy were not lifted until 1983. Daniela Goggi’s (“Abzurdah”) latest “The Rescue” (“El Rapto”) is set in this transitional period, where a hangover of deep corruption still remains.
It stars “Money Heist’s” Rodrigo de la Serna, hit Paramount+ Nov. 3 and now plays in main competition at the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival.
Produced by Paramount Television International Studios, Rei Cine (“The Settlers”) and Infinity Hill, it shows Paramount’s continued global ambitions in Spanish-language originals.
“At our studio, we always seek to create high-quality content with great partners and remarkable talent, in front of and behind the camera, to create local stories with universal appeal that will cross borders and conquer global audiences,” said Dario Turovelzky, EVP Broadcast & Studios at Latam Paramount Global.
“‘El Rapto’ (‘The Rescue’) is an outstanding example of this ongoing creative pursuit.

As Paramount Global refocuses its operations on a global mindset and local execution, it’s unveiling a new name and mission for its studios operations across markets that will now concentrate on high-end scripted content that can drive growth at Paramount+.
Led by Maria Kyriacou, president, broadcast & studios, international markets at Paramount Global, the company’s studios business outside the U.S. will now be known as Paramount Television International Studios (Ptis). That name replaces the ViacomCBS International Studio (Vis) brand that the company had kept following the 2019 merger of Viacom and CBS. The operation is set to have a closer relationship and alignment with the wider Paramount Studios organization.
“Our goal is to deliver on the strategic priorities of our business and accelerate growth for Paramount+, creating premium scripted content that reflects the cultures and experiences of our diverse international audiences,” said Kyriacou in an internal memo. “Working in...

Nearly 30 people are set to be hit by layoffs at CBS Studios and Paramount TV Studios, which will be merged with Paramount+’s scripted team, an individual with knowledge confirmed to TheWrap.
Back in October, George Cheeks, president and CEO at CBS and chief content officer of News & Sports at Paramount+ took over the shepherding of both studios. At the time, Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish alluded that Paramount TV Studios, headed by president Nicole Clemens, and CBS Studios, led by president David Stapf, would work in conjunction with one another.
Per an internal memo from Cheeks’ office, obtained by TheWrap, CBS Studios and Ptvs are remaining largely intact and independent from each other, though department heads will “support and work across” both brands in the spirit of “healthy collaboration.”

Paramount wants to increasingly approach its networks, streamers and other assets with a truly global mindset. The conglomerate is working to structure reporting lines within the organization with that in mind — rather than relying on traditional regional clusters — and executives are now sharing additional details of that strategy.
For example, “piloting” content from international businesses locally, such as in Britain, with an eye on a possible expansion into other markets, including the U.S., is now a regular goal. “I was talking to Ben Frow who runs programming for [U.K. broadcast network] Channel 5,” Paramount CEO Bob Bakish told The Hollywood Reporter. “His thesis is … the real opportunity is about piloting in the U.K. as a step towards a global franchise, not necessarily trying to launch a global franchise out of the gate,” which has often proven difficult.
He pointed to CBS’ season 2 of the BBC remake Ghosts.
