It was a rough couple of weeks for “Project Runway” designer Kenneth Barlis. In “#Streetwear,” he was berated by fellow contestant Meg Ferguson when he asked if she would feel comfortable switching models with him so he could design his Asian-inspired look for an Asian model. Ferguson withdrew from the show after that blowup and the turmoil didn’t help Barlis’s design, landing him in the bottom two. But then in the very next challenge, “If You Got It, Haunt It,” he was eliminated from the competition. What did you think of his ouster?
“I am actually sad leaving ‘Project Runway’ right now because I know that I can do so much more,” he said in his confessional upon leaving the show. But “it made me stronger, and I am not done yet. I’m just barely starting. I know that I gave it all. That gives me peace of mind,...

It takes a lot to win “Project Runway.” It’s hard enough just not to lose every week since the designers only get one or two days to create an entire look from scratch. So there’s no shame in having an off day. Nevertheless, these are the worst looks of season 19 according to the judges. Did they get it right by picking these as the poorest designs? Or did you think any of them were criminally underrated? Scroll down to see the losing looks, updating each week as the season progresses.
The season started with 16 designers: Octavio Aguilar, Darren Apolonio, Kenneth Barlis, Caycee Black, Bones Jones, Coral Castillo, Meg Ferguson, Prajje Oscar Jean-Baptiste, Kristina Kharlashkina, Katie Kortman, Shantall Lacayo, Chasity Sereal, Sabrina Spanta, Aaron Michael Steach, Zayden Skipper, and Anna Zhou.

On last week’s second episode of “Project Runway” season 19, a “#Streetwear” challenge threw the design studio into chaos when Meg Ferguson became openly hostile to Kenneth Barlis over his request to switch models with him for cultural representation reasons. The verbal altercation escalated and reverberated throughout the studio, culminating in Meg’s decision to voluntarily leave the competition. Series judges Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell and Elaine Welteroth, joined by host and mentor Christian Siriano this season, all agreed that after Meg’s exit none of the other designers should be eliminated.

“Project Runway’s” week-two “#Streetwear” challenge was contentious: Meg Ferguson quit the show after cursing out Kenneth Barlis for wanting to switch models. (It was a long story.) Barlis ended up in the bottom three with Katie Kortman and Darren Apolonio, but because Ferguson withdrew from the competition (especially under such contentious circumstances), the judges decided not to eliminate anyone. But they probably won’t be so generous for tonight’s third challenge.
As of this writing Kortman is the likeliest designer to be eliminated, according to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users as of this writing. She gets 69/20 odds of being sent home. In “#Streetwear” she was praised for her specific point of view but also criticized for her unflattering silhouette and proportions and for taking her colorful aesthetic too far into childishness and kitsch. We saw that a couple of seasons ago when Hester Sunshine‘s style...

“Project Runway” made a triumphant return for its 19th season by embracing the spirit of revival in New York City with a “colorful” premiere on October 14. Series judges Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell and Elaine Welteroth joined host and mentor Christian Siriano as well as 16 fresh designers who in week one competed in a two-team face off of monochromatic looks within “warm” and “cool” color palettes. Bones Jones led the warm team as the overall winner while Caycee Black was sent home from the cool team for her unfinished garment. This week the designers worked on their own to create a three-piece streetwear look with an impact, but one designer’s point of view had the most dramatic impact on the entire competition.
