London, July 28 (Ians) India batter Jemimah Rodrigues will be returning to Northern Superchargers for a third successive season at The Hundred after she was signed as late replacement for injured Australian allrounder Heather Graham on Friday.
Jemimah was Superchargers’ leading run-getter in the inaugural season, in 2021, aggregating 249 runs in seven innings. However, she missed the majority of last year’s competition for the franchise with a wrist injury.
Superchargers opted not to retain the 22-year old Indian ahead of March’s draft but have now brought her back as a replacement.
“I’m so excited to be back in The Hundred,” Rodrigues was quoted as saying in the franchise’s media release.
“It’s a world-class competition and I’ve had so much taking part in it previously. I was very disappointed to have to withdraw last year through injury so it’s great to be back. Headingley is a brilliant ground to play at,...

Mumbai, March 18 (Ians) After handing Mumbai Indians their first loss in the Women’s Premier League (Wpl), Up Warriorz all-rounder Deepti Sharma, revealed that did not imagine that she would get an opportunity to bat after restricting Mumbai Indians to 127.
After claiming a couple of wickets, Deepti scored a crucial 13 runs to build an all-important 24-run unbeaten partnership with Sophie Ecclestone to take her side to a 5-wicket win over Mi and was adjudged the player of the match.

Mumbai, March 6 (Ians) Up Warriorz beat Gujarat Giants in their opening match of the Wpl 2023 at the Dy Patil Stadium here on Sunday.
Grace Harris hit a brilliant 26-ball 59* to pull off a sensational three-wicket win for the Warriorz. Kiran Navgire, too, played an important support act with a composed 43-ball 53.
Chasing 170, the Up Warriorz stuttered to 35/3 in the Powerplay. Gg pacer Kim Garth put on a masterclass in swing bowling. She provided Gg a perfect start as she had the dangerous Alyssa Healy caught and bowled, Shweta Sehrawat caught at short third man and then Tahlia McGrath caught at slip, all in the third over, reports Wpl.
Kiran Navgire then provided some impetus to the Upw innings and also provided stability along with Deepti Sharma. Navgire mixed caution with aggression well and brought her fifty off 40 balls.
Mansi Joshi finally broke the 68-run partnership as she cleaned up Sharma with an inswinger.

Cape Town, Feb 24 (Ians) Star all-rounder Ash Gardner has no doubt that Australia’s supreme fielding was the point of difference that helped her side clinch a nail-biting five-run victory over India in the Icc Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 semi-final, here.
Australia’s catching and desperation in the field on Thursday night was a class above during the cut-throat clash as the reigning T20 World Cup champions held their nerve to successfully book a spot in Sunday’s final.
Tahlia McGrath and Ellyse Perry held on to outfield catches late in India’s run chase to help guide Australia home, while two runs outs — including the key wicket of Harmanpreet Kaur in bizarre circumstances — highlighted what was yet another excellent fielding performance from Meg Lanning’s side.

Cape Town, Feb 23 (Ians) A spirited counterattack from captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues went in vain as Australia entered their seventh Women’s T20 World Cup final with a five-run win over India in the first semifinal at Newlands Cricket Ground on Thursday.
After Australia’s big players stepped up to make 172/4, India’s top three aggregated only 15 runs among themselves. Harmanpreet and Jemimah rose to the occasion by making 52 and 43 respectively while spearheading the chase with a brilliant 69-run stand off 41 balls.
But the duo falling in 4.2 overs post the ten-over mark meant India could never recover from it and ended up at 167/8 in 20 overs, falling so close yet so far, once again. India would also look at their sloppy fielding efforts and dropping two crucial chances apart from conceding 61 runs in the last five overs.

Cape Town, Feb 23 (Ians) Australia captain Meg Lanning has won the toss and elected to bat first against India in the first semi-final of the 2023 Icc Women’s T20 World Cup at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town on Thursday.
Hours before the semifinal, India’s fast-bowling all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament with an upper respiratory tract infection, with Sneh Rana named as her replacement in the squad. There were concerns over Harmanpreet Kaur’s availability due to fever but is now fit to play in the semi-final.
After winning the toss, Australia’s captain informed that left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen and fit-again Alyssa Healy have come into the playing eleven in place of Alana King and Annabel Sutherland.

Cape Town, Feb 22 (Ians) As expected, India have made it to the semifinals of 2023 Icc Womens T20 World Cup in South Africa. But to get their ticket to the final, scheduled on February 26, they must overcome the challenge in the form of mighty Australia in the first semi-final of the competition on Thursday.
Australia, also the defending champions, head into the semi-finals as firm favourites, especially with a 3-2 upper hand over India in Women’s T20 World Cup matches. Moreover, Australia got the better of India in the 2020 T20 World Cup final and Commonwealth Games gold medal match last year.
Australia had also won a five-game T20I series in India 4-1, apart from a warm-up match victory earlier in the month. But they will be wary of India’s giant-killing instinct, a glimpse of which was seen when they secured a thrilling super-over victory in the second game...

New Delhi, Feb 22 (Ians) Up Warriorz on Wednesday named the talismanic Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy as their captain ahead of the inaugural season of the Womens Premier League (Wpl), to be held from March 4-26 in Mumbai.
Alyssa, one of the most recognised faces in the sport, is a highly experienced and seasoned campaigner, having played 139 games for Australia in T20Is, scoring close to 2,500 runs, with one century and 14 fifties as well. She is also considered to be one of the best wicket-keeper batters in the sport, with 110 dismissals in T20Is.
One of the senior-most members of the dominant Australian side, Alyssa has been a key cog in the wheel, and is known to reserve her best performances for the biggest stages, such as slamming a fantastic 75 from 39 balls in the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where a record-breaking 86,174 people watched Australia win their fifth title.

Gqeberha (South Africa), Feb 20 (Ians) Former captain Mithali Raj feels the Indian team has been scratchy in both batting and bowling at the Icc Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 and they have to put up the best performance in all three departments of the game in the semi-final.
India suffered an 11-run defeat to England on Saturday as their chase ran out of steam in the final overs when they needed a daunting 31 runs from the final six deliveries.
A final over of 19 papered over the cracks in India’s effort, as England improved their tournament record against India to 6-0, also storming to the top of the Group 2 table.
Raj, speaking on the 100 Cricket Podcast, pinpointed the middle-over periods across both innings as where India faulted.

Gqeberha (South Africa), Feb 19 (Ians) Australia are confident that vice-captain Alyssa Healy will be fit to return for Thursday’s cut-throat semi-final at the Icc Women’s T20 World Cup.
Healy sat out Australia’s emphatic six-wicket victory over South Africa on Saturday with a quad concern, but the injury was only minor according to team management.
The experienced wicket-keeper batter only just recovered from a calf injury prior to the tournament and the decision to rest her for the match against the Proteas was purely to provide her with some extra rest, according to star all-rounder Tahlia McGrath.
“It was more of a precautionary measure with coming off a serious calf injury and with a pretty hectic schedule,” McGrath said.
“We expect her to be fully fit and ready to go for us in the semi-finals,” she added.

Mumbai, Dec 19 (Ians) Australia captain Alyssa Healy has been ruled out of the fifth and final T20I against India, to be held at Brabourne Stadium on Tuesday, after suffering a calf strain in Saturday’s series-clinching seven-run win.

Tahlia had captained the Adelaide Strikers to their maiden Women’s Big Bash League (Wbbl) title in November and has also captained her state team South Australia in a domestic one-day cricket tournament.

Mumbai, Dec 15 (Ians) India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur feels that playing out too many dot balls in a chase of 173 against Australia in the third T20I at Brabourne Stadium cost her team a victory.
On Wednesday, despite Harmanpreet adding 73 runs in 50 balls with Shafali Verma (52 off 41) for the third wicket, India were unable to avoid a 21-run loss, playing 55 dot balls, giving Australia a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
“It’s not all about power-hitting. Even if we were to consider and analyse the last match, we were aiming to get 10-11 runs in the over. During the match also we were getting boundaries but we played too many dot balls. That is the reason why we were not able to win this game.”
“Otherwise, you have to analyse your strengths and if you play in a calculative way, you can even win matches for your teams. In this match,...

Mumbai, Dec 14 (Ians) Star all-rounder Ellyse Perry (47 off 75), Grace Harris ( 41 off 18) and a disciplined performance with the ball guided Australia Women to a convincing 21-run win in the third T20I against India and a 2-1 lead in the five-match series at Brabourne Stadium, here on Wednesday.
Batting first, Australia posted 172 for 8 in 20 overs. In reply, India were restricted to 151 for 7 despite a 41-ball 52 by Shafali Verma.
Chasing a challenging total, last game’s star performer Smriti Mandhana struggled to get going before she got out to Darcie Brown for 1 off 10. After her wicket, Shafali and Jemimah Rodrigues struck regular boundaries to maintain the required run-rate.
Rodrigues (16) struck three fours off Annabel Sutherland but couldn’t continue longer and got out to Brown in the 5th over. Shafali, who was dropped by Ashleigh Gardner off Megan Schutt, helped India to 41/2 at the end of the powerplay.
