One of the premier African American heavyweight boxers of the early
Twentieth century, second only to Jack Johnson, whom he fought several
times. Due to the racism of the period, he never was able to mount a
challenge for the heavyweight crown. In a career stretching from 1904
to 1922, out of 166 documented fights, Jeanette had 106 wins, of which
68 were by knockout. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall
of Fame in 1997.
