From now until the end of the season, “MasterChef” will be treating fans with back-to-back episodes on Wednesdays. This week, the Top 8 chef-testants competed in front of a pair of Michelin star-winning Legends: Dominique Crenn in the first hour and Niki Nakayama in the second hour. First the players teamed up and created identical dishes while being separated visually by an enormous wall. Then they were tasked with creating three Japanese plates — one grilled, one fried, one steamed. At the end of the night, two chefs were eliminated by host Gordon Ramsay and judges Joe Bastianich and Aaron Sanchez. The eight remaining home cooks were: Abe Konick, Alejandro Valdivia, Anne Hicks, Autumn Moretti, Joseph Manglicmot, Kelsey Murphy, Michael Newman and Suu Khin.

After 10 episodes in the “MasterChef” kitchen, Lexy Rogers‘ journey came to an end during the “Cook for Your Legend” challenge. The 23-year-old stay-at-home mom from Zion, Illinois found herself in the bottom three alongside Anne Hicks and Abe Konick, with judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Aaron Sanchez agreeing Lexy’s dish was the worst. “Lexy, you’ve grown and you’ve gotten more confident,” Gordon began, “but tonight you went back to playing it safe. You’ve been a beacon, young lady. You light up this kitchen. Promise us you’re gonna continue cooking.”

Lexy’s personal legend was her husband and so her dish was in honor of him. Unfortunately, the judges thought that it was a step backward at this stage of the reality TV show. “The dish felt badly conceptualized and it needed more passion,” Gordon explained.

“MasterChef: Legends” entered the black apron stage of the competition this week, with the Top 9 chef-testants all being tasked with a special “Cook for Your Legend” challenge. Since Joseph Manglicmot won immunity last week, he was safe from this week’s elimination. The other remaining home cooks were: Abe Konick, Alejandro Valdivia, Anne Hicks, Autumn Moretti, Kelsey Murphy, Lexy Rogers, Michael Newman and Suu Khin. Of note, there was no special legend this week joining host Gordon Ramsay and judges Joe Bastianich and Aaron Sanchez.

Like most shows on network television, “MasterChef” is in the middle of a two-week break as Fox doesn’t want to compete against NBC’s airing of the Tokyo Olympics. When we last checked in with our aspiring home cooks, the judges had just narrowed down the field to the Top 9. So when is “MasterChef” coming back? Mark your calendars for Wednesday, August 11 at 8:00 p.m as that’s when the next “Legends” episode, titled “Elevated Street Food,” will finally air.
Here is how Fox describes this ninth episode of Season 11: “The pioneering king of the food truck revolution, Roy Choi, tasks the home cooks with making a street food dish worthy of a Michelin star restaurant.”

The July 21 episode of “MasterChef: Legends” ended with an emotional shocker as Tay Westberry was eliminated due to a technicality. This week’s task was to create a California-inspired dish using five ingredients: Santa Barbara prawns, sea urchin, wasabi, avocado and grapefruit. Unfortunately, Tay forgot his urchin butter in the refrigerator, so Gordon Ramsay, Aaron Sanchez, Joe Bastianich and special guest judge Jonathan Waxman had no choice but to cut him from the Top 10.
“It breaks my heart to send you home,” Gordon told the 29-year-old radio host from Nebraska. “Tonight’s challenge was about using five ingredients and this is a competition, so we have to abide by the rules.” In truth, the judges thought Joseph Manglicmot made the worst dish of the week, but he “dodged a bullet” because of Tay’s oopsie. The other home cook in the bottom three was Alejandro Valdivia.

Joining host Gordon Ramsay and judges Joe Bastianich and Aaron Sanchez this week was Jonathan Waxman, who tasked the players with creating a dish using five Cali ingredients. So how’d it all play out on Wednesday night?
