New Delhi, May 26 (Ians) Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody believes that the absence of Rajat Patidar exposed Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (Rcb) batting and had put an enormous amount of pressure on their ‘Big Three’ — Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis during the Ipl 2023 season.
Patidar did not feature in Rcb’s first game of the season due to heel injury and later ruled out of the tournament owing to the same.
Speaking on ESPNCricinfo, Moody highlighted how Kohli, Maxwell, and Faf handled the immense pressure caused by Patidar’s absence remarkably well and performed admirably. But the team struggled to identify a suitable player for the vacant batting position throughout the tournament.
“Rcb was challenged right from the beginning of the tournament when Patidar was made unavailable, the key figure at number three. It exposed their batting and put an enormous amount of pressure on their big three.

Bengaluru, May 22 (Ians) After crashing out of Ipl 2023 through a six-wicket loss to Gujarat Titans despite making 197/5, thanks to Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 101, Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis was quick in admitting that the side consistently missed couple of runs from the middle-order throughout their run in the tournament.
In the tournament, du Plessis, Kohli and Glenn Maxwell were highly touted as the big three for scoring a bulk of runs for the franchise and leading them to victories. With no Rajat Patidar in the batting line-up due to a heel injury which needed surgical intervention in England, the likes of Dinesh Karthik, Mahipal Lomror, Anuj Rawat and Shahbaz Ahmed failed to get big runs consistently and were unable to provide the required support to top three batters.

Bengaluru, April 15 (Ians) Right-arm medium pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak announced his arrival on the big stage of the Indian Premier League (Ipl) in style as he picked three wickets and played a crucial role in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s 23-run win over Delhi Capitals on Saturday, on his debut in the cash-rich league.
The 26-year-old Vyshak, who hails from Karnataka, was drafted into Rcb’s side as a replacement for the injured Rajat Patidar after performing brilliantly in domestic cricket and he delivered for the team in his very first outing.
The pacer dismissed the likes of David Warner, Axar Patel, and Lalit Yadav to claim superb bowling figures of 3-20 in four overs, which is the best spell by an Indian bowler on debut for the Rcb.
The 26-year-old may not have the express pace but he mixed his lengths, varied his pace cleverly and bowled a perfect knuckleball with perfection.

Kolkata, April 6 (Ians) England’s tall left-arm fast bowler Reece Topley has been ruled out of Ipl 2023 after dislocating his right shoulder during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s tournament opener against Mumbai Indians on April 2, confirmed head coach Sanjay Bangar here on Thursday.
In the match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Topley had figures of 1/14 from his two overs on Ipl debut, and even castled Cameron Green. But he suffered a right shoulder dislocation while making a diving stop in the field and left the ground immediately.
“Reece, unfortunately, had to go back home because he has been ruled out of the tournament. We tried our best to keep him here, but the treatment and the experts suggest that he is going to be out of action for some time,” said Bangar to broadcasters during Thursday’s Ipl match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.
Topley was signed up by Rcb for Inr 1.9 crores.

New Delhi, April 4 (Ians) In a major blow for the franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) batter Rajat Patidar was on Tuesday ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 due to an Achilles’ heel injury.
Rcb were recently hoping that the 29-year-old batter, who didn’t take part in the team’s first match, would be available to play for them at some stage this season but he has now been ruled out from the tournament.
The franchise has opted to not name a replacement for now. The likes of Anuj Rawat, Suyash Prabhudessai and Mahipal Lomror are some of the Indian options Rcb have in the squad to fill the void.
“Rajat Patidar will not take part in Ipl 2023. Rcb wish Rajat Patidar a speedy recovery and will continue to support him during the process,” the franchise said in a statement.

Bengaluru, April 1 (Ians) Sunday’s marquee clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has been largely dominated by the availability of players from both camps.
Bangalore, set to play their first home game after four years, are sweating over the availability of Rajat Patidar and Josh Hazlewood. Head coach Sanjay Bangar is hoping that Patidar, currently undergoing rehabilitation for a heel injury at the National Cricket Academy (Nca), can be back in action at some point in the competition.
“As far as Rajat goes, at this point, he’s out of our control, at the Nca he’s sort of undergoing treatment in that particular academy and we are still waiting for the clarifications from him. And once we get the clarifications, our media team will certainly keep you in the loop and it might also be the case, the Nca will take a...

It will be the first time since 2019 that all ten teams will be playing at their respective home venues. Ipl 2023 also sees the return to its usual home-and-away format after a hiatus of three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Though the pandemic hasn’t completely gone away, there are no bio-bubbles as teams regroup and renew their focus of battling out for the most coveted T20 trophy in the cricketing world.
The return of home-and-away format means fans in various venues can have the opportunity of seeing their favourite Indian and overseas players in action in their home cities.
With no air travel last year for teams, it meant that players weren’t having much of travel load. But with the Ipl this year going back to home-and-away format, it presents a challenge for players and support staff to keep themselves fresh in terms of workload so that there isn’t drop in intensity,...

New Delhi, March 25 (Ians) Right-hander batter Rajat Patidar, who had an impressive outing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) in Ipl 2022, is doubtful for at least the first half of the upcoming season due to a heel injury.
According to an ESPNcricinfo report, Patidar is currently undergoing rehab at the Nca in Bengaluru and has been advised to rest for the next three weeks. An Mri scan will decide his participation in the second half of the tournament.
“He picked up the injury prior to joining the camp, and will need an Nca clearance before linking up with Royal Challengers,” the report said.
The 29-year old batter’s absence could force Rcb to rethink their batting combination. With him in the mix, Virat Kohli would continue to open the batting with Faf du Plessis. However, it will be now interesting to see whether Kohli bats at number three with one of...

New Delhi, March 22 (Ians) Stylish Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav said that 2022 has been nothing short of a dream run for him.
In November, last year, Suryakumar’s 111* off just 51 balls in the second T20I against New Zealand showcased a terrific display of creative and fearless T20 hitting, smashing eleven 4’s and seven 6’s in his innings.
“The innings against New Zealand at Bay Oval is surely one very close to my heart, most importantly because we won the match. 2022 has been nothing short of a dream run and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you guys for always showing immense love and support. Looking forward to this year, especially the Odi World Cup at home and hoping to win it for the country,” Sky said after winning the ESPNCricinfo Men’s T20i Batting Performance of the Year.

New Delhi, Feb 26 (Ians) Opener Mayank Agarwal will captain Rest of India against Madhya Pradesh in the Irani Cup tie. But middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan misses out on the Irani Cup due to finger injury.
A report in ESPNCricinfo says the Irani Cup match was initially set to be played in Indore, but had move to Gwalior after the third India-Australia Test was allotted to the Holkar Stadium, because of the Hpca Stadium in Dharamshala not being ready in time to host the game.
Though the official squad is yet to come out, the report says Sarfaraz, a prolific run-getter for the last three seasons for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, has been advised eight to ten days of rest to recover from finger injury.

Indore, Jan 23 (Ians) After taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Odi series, India could be looking at making some changes to their playing eleven for the third and final game as they seek a 3-0 finish against New Zealand at Holkar Stadium on Tuesday.
After a 3-0 series victory over Sri Lanka, India wouldn’t want to let their guard down in a dead rubber and inflict a series sweep over a New Zealand missing stalwarts like Kane Williamson and Tim Southee.
New Zealand, on the other hand, will have pride to play for in Indore and a win would do their confidence a world of good ahead of the three T20Is against India, where Mitchell Santner will be captaining them.

Raipur, Jan 20 (Ians) After surviving a mighty scare from all-rounder Michael Bracewell in a successful defence of 349 in the first match, India will be aiming to overcome New Zealand challenge in the second Odi and clinch back to back 50-over match series at home here, which will be Raipur’s debut as an international cricket venue on Saturday.
The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Cricket Stadium, with a crowd capacity of 49,000, is all set to become the 50th venue in India to host an Odi match. The stadium had hosted two Ipl games of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2013 and 2015, and also played host to eight matches of the now-defunct Champions League T20.

Hyderabad, Jan 18 (Ians) Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has lavished praise on seamer Mohammed Siraj, and confirmed that young batter Ishan Kishan will feature in the upcoming New Zealand Odi series, starting here on Wednesday.
“In terms of Ishan, yeah, he will be batting middle order. I’m glad he could get a run here after that fine knock in Bangladesh,” Rohit said in the pre-game press conference before the first Odi against New Zealand.
Kishan scored a double century opening the batting in his last Odi against Bangladesh, but had to sit out the more recent Odi series against Sri Lanka.
Rohit also heaped praise on Mohammed Siraj, saying: “Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen how well Siraj has fared across all three formats. He has improved his bowling; his line and length have improved. He has especially worked on his outswing. Earlier, he wasn’t that renowned for swing,...

Mumbai, Jan 17 (Ians) Middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match Odi series against New Zealand due to a back injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci) announced on Tuesday.
“He will be heading to the National Cricket Academy (Nca) for further assessment and management,” it said in a statement.
Rajat Patidar, who is yet to make his debut, has been named as Iyer’s replacement in the Odi squad for the series.
Iyer played in all the matches in the recently-concluded series against Sri Lanka, scoring 28, 28 and 38 batting at No. 4. He is India’s second-highest run-scorer in ODIs since 2022, after Shubman Gill, scoring 818 at an average of 51.12.
The 28-year-old also played a starring role in India’s Test series win over Bangladesh in December last year, scoring 87 and 29* at Mirpur to help India win the deciding game.

Chattogram, Dec 9 (Ians) Left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav on Friday has been added to India’s squad for the third and final Odi against Bangladesh, with Kl Rahul to captain the side in Rohit Sharma’s absence, said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci).
Yadav was initially named in India’s Test squad for the two-match series against Bangladesh, starting from December 14. But with fast-bowlers Kuldeep Sen and Deepak Chahar ruled out due to injuries, he had to be called up for the third and final Odi against Bangladesh.
Yadav had been in India’s squad on tour of New Zealand, but did not get any match to play. He last played in an Odi against South Africa at New Delhi on October 11, picking 4/18 and got the Player of the Match award for playing a pivotal role in a 2-1 series victory for the hosts.

Dhaka, Dec 7 (Ians) India skipper Rohit Sharma admitted that his bowlers need to work on their bowling in the middle as well as in the back-end overs after losing the series to Bangladesh through a five-wicket loss in the second Odi.
For the second time in as many matches, India’s bowlers allowed Bangladesh’s batting order to recover and get over the line. On Sunday, last-wicket pair of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman took advantage of India’s sloppiness in the last six overs to give Bangladesh a win in the first Odi.
On Wednesday, the visitors’ squandered the advantage of reducing the hosts’ to 69/6 by allowing Mehidy to hit an unbeaten 83-ball century, and him stitching a 148-run stand with Mahmudullah (77) in a stunning recovery for Bangladesh to make 271/6. India’s bowlers conceded 68 runs in the last five overs, while in the last 10 overs they leaked a whopping 102 runs.

Dhaka, Dec 3 (Ians) With T20 World Cups happening in 2021 and 2022, there was very little focus on Odi cricket. But now with the 2023 Odi World Cup less than 12 months, suddenly the format seems to have gained high importance in the eyes of teams and fans.
After a young side went to New Zealand and lost the only Odi of the series with the next two matches being rain-affected, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Kl Rahul are back as India brace themselves for the challenge from Bangladesh in the series opener on Sunday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (Sbncs) in Mirpur, Dhaka.
The ODIs against Bangladesh will also mark the re-uniting of Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli as the top three. Since the 2019 World Cup, the trio have featured in just 12 ODIs together.

Mumbai, Dec 3 (Ians) Tearaway fast bowler Umran Malik on Saturday was named as a replacement for injured senior pacer Mohammed Shami in India’s Odi squad for the upcoming Odi series against Bangladesh.
An official statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci) secretary Jay Shah said Shami sustained a shoulder injury during a training session in the lead up to the Odi series against Bangladesh.
He is currently under the supervision of the Bcci Medical Team at the Nca, Bengaluru and will not be able to take part in the series against Bangladesh. It is not yet clear if Shami will be fit in time for the two Tests against Bangladesh, starting from December 14 in Chattogram.
Malik had debuted in ODIs against New Zealand at Auckland on November 25, picking 2/66 and then took 1/31 in a washed-out match at Christchurch on November 30. He now joins Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur,...

The series against Bangladesh marks the return of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kl Rahul, and Mohammed Shami to the Odi fold, along with fresh faces in Kuldeep Sen, Rajat Patidar and Rahul Tripathi.
In a select media interaction organised by Sony Sports Network, former India left-arm spinner Maninder Singh spoke about Washington Sundar’s big opportunity in Bangladesh, Rohit and Rahul coming back in ODIs and why he feels India should have included a wrist-spinner for the three-match series.
Q. Washington Sundar recently performed well in New Zealand, especially with the bat under pressure in ODIs. With no Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja for the ODIs against Bangladesh, do you think Washington can step up to be the finisher as well as become that sixth bowling option which India is looking for?
A. As far as the sixth bowling option is concerned, there’s no doubt as he bowls well.

Mumbai, Oct 31 (Ians) Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will make a comeback to India’s Test and Odi squads for the tour of Bangladesh in December, the chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma announced on Monday.
The 33-year-old Jadeja had missed out on the ongoing T20 World Cup because of a knee injury he suffered during the Asia Cup in August and subsequent surgery. In the last few weeks, the all-rounder has shared videos of his recovery, giving the idea that he is making steady progress and is on the road to recovery.
Chief selector Sharma mentioned that Jadeja’s inclusion in the squad is subject to his fitness test.
Meanwhile, senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Kl Rahul will also return for the tour of Bangladesh, after taking a break from the tour of New Zealand in November, which begins five days after the T20 World Cup final in Australia.

The official inspection will now happen at 1:30pm. Though New Delhi has seen bright sunshine since morning after the last three-four days saw heavy rainfall, the super soppers are still at work around the outfield near the Gautam Gambhir stand though the rest of the ground seems to have dried up well.
For India, a victory on New Delhi’s return to hosting an Odi match after three years will continue their winning juggernaut in the format which began after co-incidentally losing a three-match series in South Africa earlier this year.
The hosts squared the series at 1-1 after winning the second Odi at Ranchi on Sunday by seven wickets.
South Africa, on the other hand, badly need a win on Tuesday to put themselves back on track for direct qualification for next year’s Odi World Cup. A narrow win in Lucknow gave them the vital 10 points, but a loss in Ranchi,...

But this time, instead of scorching heat, it will be the rain threat which will be looming over the series decider, apart from the possibility of a truncated match. India’s national capital has recording 121.7 mm of rain in first ten days of the current month, resulting in water-logged roads and traffic thrown into chaos.
Though the weather forecast shows less of scattered rain and more of sunshine on Tuesday, with the ground covered due to heavy rain in last 72 hours, one can expect a pitch which will have some moisture around and assist the fast bowlers.
With India’s emphatic seven-wicket victory over South Africa in Ranchi setting the stage for a winner-takes-it-all clash in New Delhi, many cricket fans have been nervously scrolling through weather apps and making earnest prayers to the Almighty for Tuesday’s match to go smoothly without any interruption.

Ranchi, Oct 8 (Ians) After losing the series opener to South Africa by nine runs in Lucknow, India will be eyeing corrections of their mistakes in all departments of the game when they take the field for a must-win second Odi at the Jsca International Stadium on Sunday.
With Washington Sundar drafted in the squad as Deepak Chahar’s replacement on the eve of the match, it means that India will be a pace option less in Sunday’s match, especially after Mohammed Siraj and Avesh Khan couldn’t impress in the first Odi at Lucknow apart from leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi being expensive in his first 50-over match for India.
Moreover, India had plenty of misfields and dropped catches at various junctures in the truncated match, allowing South Africa to reach 249/4 in 40 overs, especially with David Miller (75 not out off 63 balls) and Heinrich Klassen (74 not out off 65 balls) sharing a rollicking...

Ranchi, Oct 8 (Ians) The All-India Senior Selection Committee on Saturday named off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar as replacement for pace all-rounder Deepak Chahar for the remainder of the Odi series against South Africa.

Mumbai, Oct 8 (Ians) India opening batter Prithvi Shaw admitted that he was disappointed over not being considered for the ongoing Odi series against South Africa despite scoring runs and putting in a lot of hard work.
With the first-choice players in Australia to prepare for the T20 World Cup, many performers in domestic and India ‘A’ matches like Rajat Patidar, Sanju Samson apart from young players like Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad were picked too for the ODIs against South Africa.
But Shaw, who hit two centuries while playing for West Zone in Duleep Trophy and smacked a 48-ball 77 against the visiting New Zealand ‘A’ team for India ‘A’ in one-day series, was not given a look-in for the 50-over matches against South Africa.

Lucknow, Oct 5 (Ians) Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan has set his eyes on 2023 Odi World Cup, saying that he wants to keep himself fit and be in a positive frame for the mega event, set to be held in India.
