Mumbai, July 31 (Ians) Indian girls Raksha Kandasamy and Taarini Suri claimed silver medals in the women’s singles and mixed doubles events of the Bwf All-England Junior Badminton Championships 2023, played at the University of Birmingham, England.
The Navi Mumbai-based second-seeded Raksha lost to Canada’s top-seeded Jackie Dent in three keenly-fought games at 21-19, 12-21, 11-21 in the final, according to information reaching here on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai-based Taarini along with her England partner Dillon Chong went down fighting to the American pairing of Garret Tan and Ella Lin in two games at 18-21, 18-21 and had to settle for the silver medal in the event that started on July 27 and ended on July 30, 2023.

Bhopal, Feb 3 (Ians) Madhya Pradesh’s Dev Kumar Meena rewrote the pole vault national youth record during his gold medal effort at the ongoing Khelo India Youth Games 2022 Madhya Pradesh (KIYG2022MP), here on Friday.
Dev Kumar recorded a jump of 4.91m to break Rakesh Gond’s previous national mark of 4.90m. However, that effort of his could not stop Maharashtra from holding on to the top spot in the medal tally at the end of day five on account of having more silvers, as both they and the hosts Madhya Pradesh tallied 14 golds at the end of the fifth day.
In the track events, Doondapati Jayara of Odisha and Tamanna of Haryana emerged as the fastest boy and girl in the competition in the 100m dash.

Bhopal, Feb 2 (Ians) Hosts Madhya Pradesh (MP) on Thursday extended their golden run at the Khelo India Youth Games (Kiyg) 2022, with four more golds on day four, to add to the four they had won on day three and remain among the top two in the medal standings.
The story of the day, however, was the surge of national sporting superpowers Maharashtra, two time winners of Kiyg, on Day 4 as they amassed a total of seven gold, five silver and six bronze medals to rise to the top of the medal tally with eight gold, six silver and seven bronze medals. That made them pip the hosts, who had an equal number of golds but only three silvers.

The K-2 1000m Boys’ sprint pairing of Nitin Verma and Rimson Mairembam crossed the line first by a distance, to become the first gold medallists of the fourth edition of the Kiyg. Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh also opened their gold medal accounts, winning one each in table tennis (Tt), as a total of seven states claimed medals on the day.
The day however belonged to the hosts as they showed off their wonderful water sports infrastructure and natural prowess in the disciplines, sweeping all four gold medals on offer.

Pune, Sep 2 (Ians) Giant-killer Abhinav Mangalam was shown the door as seeds continued to fall in the quarterfinals of the India Junior International Grand Prix 2022, and played in memory of the Late Sushant Chipalkatti, here on Friday.
Local stars Tara Shah and Darshan Pujari gave Maharashtra some reason to cheer winning their respective matches.
On a two-session-two-round day, Abhinav, who turned heads in the morning by knocking out world No.9 Prince Dahal of Nepal in Round 2 bowed in the last-16 round. Pitted against No. 11 Tushar Suveer, Abhinav lost tamely 21-11, 21-14.
