“I prefer to speak through my movies,” Ryan Coogler told a well-heeled crowd tonight at the late night A Taste of Sundance dinner.
That may be true for the Creed and Black Panther director, but accepting the first annual Sundance Institute Visionary Award on the first day of the 2023 festival, 2013 Audience and Grand Jury awards winner Coogler certainly had something to say Thursday. “I was twice as nervous as I am now,” the filmmaker told the first big event of the first in-person Sundance in three years of his career making visit to the Robert Redford founded festival a decade ago. “The reason I was nervous is I had a deep desire not to let people down,” Coogler added.

ReviewFor all those who are still mourning Chadwick Boseman’s passing, director Ryan Coogler has created a moving saga that pays tribute to the actor.Bharathy SingaravelCourtesy/BlackPantherWakandaForeverTwitterThis film carried an immense weight on its shoulders from the day it was announced. A sequel to Black Panther—the flick in which a Black superhero ruled the screens on a mega scale for the first time. The first film went beyond the superhero genre to throw open burning questions about race, representation, colonisation, the prison-industrial complex in the United States and repatriation. With Wakanda Forever, director Ryan Coogler was under the pressure of living-up to the overwhelming success of the first movie. And then tragedy struck. Chadwick Boseman, who played King T’challa of the fictional African nation Wakanda and wore the mantle of the Panther, passed away in 2020 after battling cancer. For more than two years his fans mourned the...

It's well and truly fall now: there's a breeze in the air, pumpkins are all around, and within a matter of weeks, it'll be time to turn the clocks back. But before that comes another ritual, one that in this era of endless streaming options has become a monthly event for many film buffs among us. That's right, it's time to figure out what's streaming in November.
The endless switcheroo of titles available on Hulu, Netflix, Disney+, and more is always a bit of a hassle, but it gets easier when you realize that some streamers pretty much always have a huge catalogue of great options no matter what. In my opinion, HBO Max has some of the strongest programming on streaming right now, and I'm not just talking about massively popular shows like "House of the Dragon" and "Euphoria." The streamer has a pretty tremendous back catalog of films,...

The tragic story of the abbreviated life of Emmett Till, the 14-year-old Black boy brutally murdered in a racially motivated crime in Jim Crow era U.S.A, is hardly obscure. The abject cruelty of his death, and the judicial travesty that followed, remains irresistible to storytellers of all stripes. ABC’s new anthology series “Women of the Movement” is a recent addition. It’s a fact-based drama that ostensibly aims to center Till’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley (Adrienne Warren), who devoted her life to seeking justice for her son, and it’s a worthwhile challenge. Despite how well-chronicled Till’s death has been, his mother’s story isn’t as established in mainstream consciousness. But while “Women of the Movement” ambition is palpable, it’s a missed opportunity as a story told with broad strokes, stifled by lack of a singular, authoritative voice.

Creed III is happening. The third entry in what initially started life as a continuation of the Rocky boxing franchise is now moving forward as a series of its own… and without Rocky.
The movie will follow up 2018’s Creed II, in which Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) faced off in the ring against Viktor Drago (Florian Monteanu) — son of the man who killed his father, Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) — while also becoming a family man and continuing to come to terms with the legacy of his dad, Apollo Creed. Not nearly as fresh and urgent as 2015’s original Creed, the second movie was still received warmly enough by audiences and critics to make a third entry possible. Although there are some major new wrinkles this time around.
Everything you need to know about Creed III is right below, so check it out and keep coming back for more updates.
