- Mark Soltermann is a Canadian Actor who was born in Oakville Ontario. His father Rene immigrated to Canada from Switzerland and his mother Bernadette was from Prince Edward Island. At age 12, Mark decided he wanted to be an actor and he told his friends while at a theatre that summer that someday his name would scroll down in the film credits.
Mark attended De La Salle College in Toronto. While Mark took theatre arts each year, he found every year's production was a musical! Mark had no interest in musicals - so that childhood dream got left behind at graduation - until 2020.
Mark married his high school sweetheart, and they raised five children while embarking on a successful financial career. They were thrilled to become young grandparents. One day his grandsons told him they were doing BG ten minutes away and challenged grandpa to join them. He and his wife accepted their challenge, and they enjoyed the experience working on Christmas at Grand Valley. Mark picked it up again the next summer working BG projects in several popular shows including episodes of Carter, Crossword Mysteries, When Hope Calls, Mrs. America and Angel Falls.
With encouragement from AD's on set, Mark decided to try out as a principal actor in early 2020. His first booking was a music video in Sept 2020 marking his start in the industry. One year later by Sept 2021, he had booked four roles including a union film which gained him entry into ACTRA as an Apprentice. Exactly one year after that he qualified as Full ACTRA with nine film projects. Having achieved that goal he voluntarily resigned his affiliation with ACTRA in summer of 2024 to be eligible for more film and commercial projects than being restricted to union work provided.
After years in his financial career...Mark hit one of his objectives set at age 12...to be an actor. He has been in his favorite movie types, action/comedy/drama - fighting Zombies, being in a Murder Mystery, playing a corrupt Politician and even a Vampire. To his friends with him at the Vogue Theatre in Port Credit decades ago...his name has scrolled down in a list of credits. He knows nobody watches the credits - but for him, it was a childhood dream fulfilled.
In January 2024 Mark decided to try a new venue. He auditioned for a role in the stage production of The ODD Couple being produced by the Huntsville Theatre Company under the direction of Cydney Jones. He had hoped to get a small part to try it out but was offered a lead role as Felix Ungar. The play finished in late May and he loved playing in front of a live audience.
