As a mental health therapist in Wilmington, NC, and a faculty member of the University of North Carolina Wilmington School of Social Work, Tab has been inspired by his clients and students to evidence the value of advocacy in effective, visible ways... a goal that seems ever more challenging in a high-tech world that inundates us with information. Ultimately, he has found that media production is the most accessible vehicle for extending his role as an agent of change, endeavoring to make the enduring traumas of vulnerable communities more visible and actionable.
Tab utilized media production, in documenting the family systems philosophy of John T. Edwards PhD, producing the professional training video "Tools and Techniques for Family Therapy," preserving the legacy of Dr. Edwards, as Media Coordinator of the John T. Edwards Foundation.
Capturing the powerfully-moving remembrances of LGBT elders in coastal North Carolina for a national advocacy group, Tab filmed over twenty interviews for the SAGE Story grant program.
Tab received the National Association of Social Workers Media Award, for the 2014 short documentary film, "My Marriage Isn't Threatened By Gay Marriage in North Carolina."
Over fifteen years researching the cultural, legal, and media impact of the hate crime that took the life of 32-year-old lesbian Talana Kreeger in 1990, Tab brought the documentary film "Park View" to completion in 2020.
