ITV has announced today that they’ve commissioned a third season (or series, in British parlance) of Broadchurch, which stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman.
The first season of Broadchurch focused on the death of a local schoolboy in the fictional, titular town. Detectives Alex Hardy (Tennant) and Ellie Miller (Colman) arrive to investigate, which leads to them uncovering suspicions and prompting media scrutiny of the town. The second season followed the reveal of the killer at the end of the first, his subsequent trial, and a reopening of a case. Running only 16 episodes so far, Broadchurch has been a big success on both sides of the Atlantic, enough to prompt ITV to launch into the third season with the main actors and writer Chris Chibnall returning.
Chibnall seems quite excited to be writing the next season of Broadchurch, commenting that “this third chapter has been a glint in my...

It wasn’t long ago on this very website that I was talking about my favorite new shows I was watching; the UK’s Broadchurch was one of them. I mentioned that they were remaking it for American audiences and Fox would be taking the helm; more news on that front as it seems the star of the UK version David Tennant will reprise his role.
The show is acclaimed as is his performance, so here’s hoping they don’t mess it up. Tennant will play the lead role of Alex Hardy, a detective investigating the death of a boy in a small, seaside town. Of course, in this version, Hardy is an American, with the show now set in the Us. Doctor Who and Torchwood veteran Chris Chibnall, who created Broadchurch, is also executive producing the new version and writing the first episode.
A second season of the UK series is planned.

At the weekend, The X Factor returned for the start of its tenth anniversary run with a super-sized double-header.
Our own Alex Fletcher described the return as "a hit-and-miss affair.
He welcomed the return of both the intimate audition room and the "refreshingly honest and candid" Sharon Osbourne but was left sighing by the "predictable" backstories and "extra helping of eggyness" with the two-day format.
But what did the rest of the critical landscape make of it? Below, Digital Spy rounds up the reviews over the weekend of The X Factor's 2013 return.
Michael Hogan - The Daily Telegraph
"You wait ages for an episode of The X Factor and two come along at once... We didn't need the schmaltzy soundtrack or cutesy kids in 'Mummy's Got The X Factor' T-shirts to tug our heartstrings. This was stirring enough already."
Emma Daly- Radio Times

Broadchurch is the immensely popular, and some might say surprise, hit TV drama of the year so far with David Tennant and Olivia Colman in the starring roles against a backdrop of gorgeous Dorset scenery and a puzzling death of a young boy in a quiet seaside community.
Enter grizzled detective Di Alex Hardy (David Tennant) who seems to have unfortunately chosen Broadchurch as a quiet escape from a stain on his reputation and is teamed with local copper and friend of the dead boy’s family Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) who is determined to find the killer but equally keen to protect her friends in the community from the harsh manner and questions of her new colleague.
As the case goes on Di Hardy roots out some of the secrets that the inhabitants of Broadchurch have been carrying with them and in some cases their unwillingness to be more...
