Neil Flynn is a writer-director from Ireland. The first Irish writer to win the BBC International Plawriting Competition, he's best known for his award-winning drama The Snowman, short film debut An Cat Dubh, acclaimed stage plays Gravity (a Love Story), Day Of The Zebra, Sky Falls, his Rose D'Or and Prix Europa nominated dramas Honey and The Sound and The Sperm.
He began writing at a young age and was soon recognized for his prodigious talent.
His first foray into film-making as writer-director was shooting short movies in his teens shooting on a Super-8 home movie camera. As a young writer his first professional accolade was winning the International Playwriting award at the Warehouse Theatre London leading to the production of his first play Clocked directed by Ted Craig. This was quickly followed by further awards including a prestigious PJ O'Connor Radio drama award from the national broadcaster of Ireland leading to his first broadcast commission as a dramatist and the acclaimed radio drama The Quiet Willoughbys. He has been been nominated for the Stewart Parker New Playwriting award, long-listed for the Bruntwood prize, shortlisted for the Prix Europa and Rose D'Or European Broadcasting awards and is a published poet. His first feature screenplay was a Selected out of 1400 in the BBC Writersroom Drama Room. In the space of a year, three of his plays premiered to critical acclaim in Ireland. The Day Of The Zebra, which he also directed, was lauded by the Sunday Independent as a 'Medical Drama that defies genres and expectations'. Gravity (a Love Story) produced by Bottom Dog Theatre was directed by the internationally-renowned theatre director Conall Morrison, and Sky Falls 'A Stunning drama' ****. His award-winning drama The Snowman was produced by BBC Radio Drama starring acclaimed Irish actor Damien Molony and received his broadcast debut on the BBC World Service. On the path to his first feature, his debut as writer-director in film is the remarkable single-take short An Cat Dubh.
