For depicting so many situations and emotions without colors or motion, manga as a medium of storytelling is exceptional. The way mangaka craft their compelling stories, a reader can’t help but turn the page to see what’s up next. Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto is no different.
The legacy of Naruto speaks volumes about how Kishimoto hooked millions to his creation with his exceptional skills as an artist and a storyteller. Every creator has their favorite works of fiction that they draw inspiration from. Besides manga like Dragon Ball and Akira, Kishimoto drew inspiration from movies.

Be it the fandom’s hate toward Sakura or unnecessary deaths in Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto doesn’t seem to get a break. This holds especially true in the case of ‘bad writing’. The mangaka fails terribly in writing female characters. However, he outshines his Shonen contemporaries in several ways.

This is evident in his writing of Akatsuki as the major antagonist in the series. While One Piece is considered a benchmark in Shonen, his treatment of villains is different. Additionally, Akatsuki had some of the well-written characters with a developed backstory. This feat makes him superior to Oda in most ways.

From one of the most highly regarded anime-manga series to something fans love to hate, Naruto has come a long way. Any longtime fan of the series would be aware of how the discourse surrounding Naruto changed over the years. Suddenly, it has become cool to hate Naruto and make lists of reasons explaining why Masashi Kishimoto is a bad writer. Regardless of the hate, Naruto is still beloved by many.
There’s no denying that the story has its flaws, but Kishimoto’s writing style has always been emotionally gripping. His storytelling might lack in certain aspects, but the emotional scenes in Naruto always hit the mark. There are many scenes in the series that focus on the familial dynamics of different characters, and in that aspect, Kishimoto’s skills are unparalleled.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations failed as the sequel of one of the most successful anime series of all time. Most storylines and characters from the original Naruto series were either abandoned or ruined in Boruto, even Naruto’s Talk-no-Jutsu became useless. The special technique pacified many villains, saving thousands of lives at times. It was arguably the strongest weapon in the series.
However, Naruto failed to fulfill one promise he made during one of the most pivotal moments of Naruto Shippuden. It’s a prime example of how Boruto failed to honor the promises, legacy, and the Talk-no-Jutsu of its predecessor.

Naruto has been one of the most popular anime out there for decades but with popularity comes immense hate towards certain characters. A character who notoriously gets constant hate, even from people who haven’t watched Naruto, is Sakura Haruno. There are plenty of reasons why the public opinion of her is so poor, but none of the people hating her really stop and critically think about Sakura’s overall arc.
Some reasonable fans of Naruto have pointed out that the pink-haired kunoichi had to deal with a lot by simply being on Team 7. Consisting of Naruto, Sasuke and their mentor, Kakashi, Sakura wasn’t exactly surrounded by the most sane people in the Naruto universe. The already complicated world around her must’ve been hard to navigate, but to feel like the odd one out in Team 7 hits the hammer on the head.

Naruto’s live-action movie is seeing both positive and negative sides to its development. On one hand, Destin Daniel Cretton helming the project gives it credibility and hope that it would be directed well. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings gave the director enough to go with. On the other hand, it was said that the film would take an original take on Masashi Kishimoto’s story.

The movie has both good and bad expectations on its back but it is through One Piece that faith isn’t dead. The Netflix live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece was a success when no one thought it could be. All the things it got right created a sense of competition for every other adaptation to come. However, it also taught everyone something in the process.

The confusion around Shanks’ morality has been the biggest question for One Piece fans. The mystery around his intentions and his goals has led fans to think that he might be a villain after all. Be it meeting with the Five Elders or declaring his claim on the One Piece treasure, fans are more inclined towards Shanks being an antagonist who will show his true face during the final war.

Ever since the anime and manga industry has gained fame and recognition, the two names that have popped up the most are Masashi Kishimoto for Naruto and Eiichiro Oda for One Piece. The two manga creators have been at the pinnacle of the community, inspiring and helping other creators to make a name for themselves just like they did.

However, their relationship is more than that. Both Oda and Kishimoto had a fierce rivalry in their initial days to reach the top spot. This rivalry helped them create quality content that, although entirely different, often clashed with each other. And their fans follow this rivalry to this day, as they are often seen comparing both One Piece and Naruto to find out which is better.
But now the debates have gone much too far, as it feels like Naruto fans are getting in over their heads.

Apart from being one of the Big 3 of Shonen, Naruto has some of the most iconic and legendary fights. Be it Madara’s fight with Might Guy or Sakura’s epic showdown with Sasori, the series excelled in its depiction of battles. Of all the battles in the series, Kakashi and Obito’s fight scene takes the cake through its sheer poetry in motion.

The Naruto creator, Masashi Kishimoto, is never one to appeal to Western audiences. That is pretty evident with his Japanese mythology heavy lore in the series, the gravity of which maybe only the market in Japan will appreciate. However, there was one time Kishimoto had compromised on changing Naruto for the sake of Western audiences.
In an anime-themed event in France, Kishimoto was present, along with Mikio Ikemoto, the creator of Naruto’s successor Boruto. In their segment, the Naruto creator discussed the international success garnered by the series and how it was impacted by the anime adaptation rather than the original manga series.

It is public knowledge that Masashi Kishimoto is actually a huge fan of Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter manga. In fact, he has also stated that the series inspired him to create several aspects of Naruto. However, it is the least surprising news given how widespread Hunter x Hunter‘s influence is.
In several interviews, Kishimoto has praised Yoshihiro Togashi and his concepts as well as their portrayal in the manga. Throughout the show, various complex themes have been featured along with multi-layered characters that have attracted multi-generational fans hooked onto the show. The ending was peak fiction, and everyone loved it as it brought the story to a complete circle.
However, after the ending of the series, Kishimoto-Sensei thought of a reboot of the original show, where a different artist would retell the original story. Though that idea never became a reality, had it seen the light at the end of the tunnel, Kakashi would have definitely been a part of the Akatsuki!

The Leaf Village in Naruto has a strong sense of community to it. The early episodes of the series give us a peek into the daily lives of Konoha’s residents. The occasional get-togethers at Ichiraku or the chase around the village to see Kakashi’s face, are some moments that reflect the beautiful relationship between the characters and their homeland. The mere thought of even one of these characters not being there is quite jarring.

As unsettling as this thought is, it could have been the reality if Masashi Kishimoto had gone with his initial plan for one of the strongest Naruto characters. This character is none other than the fan-favorite Might Guy. Kishimoto had different plans for his character that could have significantly altered the story.

Obito Uchiha, better known as Tobi, is one of the most interesting Naruto characters. Masashi Kishimoto did not fail to give him a goosebumps-inducing tragic background, and fans could not believe the things Obito had to suffer.
The Uchiha was introduced as an antagonist, and slowly it was revealed that he helped Itachi massacre the entire Uchiha clan. However, the motivation behind his actions as well as his incredible strength, made fans wonder about him.

After the massacre of the Uchiha Clan, as well as the other atrocities committed by him, one would expect Obito to excel at all forms of jutsu. However, the reality is quite different. Unlike his kin like Sasuke, Shishui, or Itachi, Obito virtually never used genjutsu in battle.
Rather, Obito relies on a more direct approach, and he anticipates and calculates the attacks of his opponents.

Kishimoto put a lot of effort into Itachi’s character arc, making him one of the most beloved characters of the series. Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the popular Shonen anime Naruto, has created a vast world of shinobis. The series made its manga debut in 1999 and ended in 2014 after more than a decade of a unifying journey. For all these years, Kishimoto had been drawing almost nonstop since Naruto was a weekly serialization.
The author dedicated years to the franchise and is still creating Boruto. However, the detailed Naruto panels must have been exhausting to some extent. The fatigue slowly builds up despite the mangaka’s love for drawing. In an interview, Kishimoto reflected upon his fatigue over drawing while creating Naruto.

Hatake Kakashi was the embodiment of suave in Naruto. He was well-known for his strength and feared by other villages. Despite his battle quotient and the ability to use over a thousand techniques, Kakashi paled in comparison to many characters like the members of Akatsuki.

Of all the strongest clans in Naruto, the Uchiha clan was feared and ostracized in the series. The clan’s possession of Sharingan and Indra’s Curse of Hatred led to Konoha’s discrimination towards it. While the sequel spin-off Boruto humanizes the Uchiha members, it fails to answer the burning question regarding Sharingan’s legacy.

The story of Naruto is both intricate and awe-inspiring. Whether it is Pain’s philosophical expositions or Naruto’s epic entrance on top of the 3 frogs to stop Pain’s assault, the series had some pretty deep and memorable moments in all of manga.
Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto weaved the story in such a fine way that all the minor plot points seem to be connected in this magical fashion. But just like Toriyama with Dragon Ball, Kishimoto did not pre-plan everything from the start.
This includes one of the most important aspects of Naruto, which later became important at the end.

It’s no secret that Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has been under heavy scrutiny since its premiere. As a sequel to the Naruto series, this series had a huge expectation placed upon it by fans. But in terms of emotional depth and character development, Boruto could never match its predecessor. The series still faces constant criticism, but according to fans, there is one area where Boruto has arguably surpassed Naruto — which is the fight choreography.

Naruto has always been this void of endless potential and range. The numerous techniques and ninjutsu made it the captivating masterpiece it is today. Out of all of them, Itachi Uchiha has been a fan favorite character forevermore. His unique aura made him a character worth remembering.

But many Naruto fans believe that if this mission had been assigned to Team Guy, he and his apprentices, Neji, Tenten, and Rock Lee, would have easily completed it and made it look like a cakewalk.

While Sakura has often been the one to receive the most criticism whether pertaining to her lack of utility or development, another character has been subjected to the exact opposite. Characters like Pain, Itachi, and Sasuke have often been praised through and through for their journey and the way they have been written. However, for someone like Kakashi, that’s all a piece of cake.

Out of every Naruto character, the one who is loved by almost every Naruto fan is Minato Namikaze, the fourth Hokage of Konoha and Naruto’s father. Although he doesn’t have much screen time in the series, he still manages to make his presence felt through the actions of Naruto as a protagonist and Kakashi, who was his student.

Minato is considered to be one of the strongest shinobis and Hokages that Konoha has ever produced. He was feared among other villages, and as legend goes, if a Shinobi from another village saw Minato, they were asked to flee the scene as soon as possible. He is also known for his sacrifice that led to Konoha being safe from Kurama’s attack in the past.

The Naruto franchise has several characters that define legendary. Most of them have achieved something significant and thus got their recognition. Masashi Kishimoto took care of his characters and gave them a proper introduction. But there is a particular shinobi the entire Naruto fandom knows about, yet he never got any backstory or spinoff.
Sakumo Hatake, Kakashi Hatake’s father, was a legendary shinobi, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, he committed suicide. He was called the ‘White Fang of Leaf.’ The mangaka seemed to have abandoned the character even though the character has great potential to star in a spinoff series.

The finale saga of One Piece has put a special focus on the Straw Hat Pirates as they move forward toward their goals and ambitions. However, it seems like the only active members of the Straw Hat crew are Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji. During the Egghead Island arc, Eiichiro Oda has not given any special attention to the other members of the crew.
Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece | Toei Animation
While it may seem interesting to see the heavy hitters of the Straw Hat crew taking center stage, it might not work forever. Oda needs to work on the character narratives of other crew members as well. If he makes the mistake of keeping only the monster trio within the center light, he will heavily regret it in the future.
The biggest example of this is Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto. By the time the series reached the end, Kishimoto...

Designing a character list as big as Naruto can be exhausting, even for a mangaka as big as Masashi Kishimoto. With over 700 chapters and 49 arcs, Naruto carries a varied character array that is rarely seen in the anime and manga industry. And, while each character has a distinct role, not all of them were created by Kishimoto.
Chunin Exams Arc | Studio Pierrot
The mangaka himself once admitted to the fact that because of the pressure of making intriguing storylines like the Chunin exams arc, he took help from his editor to come up with new designs for the characters. As he had no idea about the storyline that he would use, he decided to create it after the characters were created.
While explaining this, Kishimoto revealed that his editor at the time was the one who came up with the designs for Rock Lee and Might Guy. Both Guy and...
