Aseemanand Sukul
- Second Unit Director or Assistant Director
Early one morning at sunrise on 24th December 1998, Aseemanand left the
world, having suffered a heart failure due to septicemia in the case of
leukemia. It was an early but a peaceful end of a respectful life that
brought about a tragedy to his family.
Aseemanand was born as the eldest son to father Benimadhav Sukul, a pujari of Shri Mahalaxmi temple (Laxmikund), and mother, Shailkumari in a small town, Varanasi in India. His siblings included six brothers and two sisters. In spite of surviving in such a large family, without much difficulty, he completed his graduation in Science stream and thereafter made a quiet escape to a bigger town Calcutta in search of a job. He started off earning with an easy task of rendering tuitions to young students. But his much bigger ambitions landed him to Bombay, the big city of dreams.
For an independent survival he continued with his tutorial job but very soon his interest in film making got him attracted to the Indian Film Industry. He made friends in Bombay with similar interests and all of them decided to make a Hindi commercial film. Unfortunately, having not much knowledge about the industry, he was cheated by his associates, which made him lose all his finances and face bankruptcy. He obviously got shattered and didn't want to return back to his family.
Finding no other way, he renounced himself from worldly pleasures and took up Sannyasa at a very young age, somewhere in his mid-twenties. He shifted to the divine Himalayas where he lived a peaceful celibate life for years without possessions, practiced yoga meditation and devotional meditation, with prayers to his chosen deity. But destiny had a different struggle in hold for him. So his Guru, asked him to return back to his parents as according to him he was very young and had to return to his Grihastha (household life) and he may return back later in his life.
Obeying the order of his guru, Aseemanand returned back but instead of staying with his parents he once again moved to Bombay against his parents' wish in search of employment. Sannyasa had brought about a huge difference in his life and had changed him into a more mature and responsible man. He, upon his own efforts, got in touch with the then great Indian film director Mr Mahesh Kaul under whom he learned the technique of film direction. After doing a couple of films with Mr Mahesh Kaul, he was able to own a small house in Bombay. Thereafter, he had to return back to his home town as his parents wished that he got married and settled down.
He found his love in a village girl, Urmila who was the elder daughter of a simple farmer and Aseemanand and Urmila got married. The couple soon returned to their Mumbai home as he always wanted to live an independent life. He continued doing films with different film directors and soon confided in the biggest director of his times, Mr Feroz Khan. He soon joined F.K. Internationals and did a number of films with Feroz Khan.
On the other hand, in his private life, he was gifted with a daughter, Sudha Shukla, two sons, Janeshwar Shukla and Rajeshwar Shukla and later in life he got yet another gift in the form of a daughter, Aparna Shukla. He, thus, continued a simple peaceful life working in the film industry and taking care of his family, educating his children to their best. Soon he was approached by an entrepreneur to make a feature film as an independent director. He saw his biggest dream coming true . Having good knowledge in Hindi literature, he started off with the writing of the script. No sooner than his script was about to finish, he suddenly fell ill and soon his family learned that he was suffering from leukemia. But the docs made believe that fortunately it was a good type of cancer and that he could lead a normal life with the treatment of chemotherapy. During his treatment, he underwent blood transplantation which proved septic and he left the world with a number of unfulfilled desires leaving behind his wife and small children at young age to live without him.
