The $5 million football drama Blinder has posted a dismal box office opening weekend of just $47,394.
Like cricket film Save Your Legs!, which last week posted a disappointing box office opening, the film was distributed too widely. The Aussie Rules footy film was shown on 99 screens giving it a screen average of just $478.
The film is about an ex-footballer who becomes embroiled in a scandal and returns to his hometown in order to clear his name and reignite an old flame. It was backed by Afl greats Glenn Archer, Adrian Gleeson and Sam Kekovich and distributed by new outfit Backlot Studios under a flat-fee structure where the producers pay for the promotional costs.
Cricket film Save Your Legs!, distributed by Madman Entertainment, also continued its underwhelming performance in its second weekend, posting $47,081 across 111 screens (screen average $424).
In contrast, only one film in the top 20 widespread releases posted a screen average under $1000 (Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away,...

Sam Kekovich is to appear in three separate Australia Day advertising campaigns this year.
The former Australian rules player is Meat & Livestock Australia’s long-standing lamb spokesman.
But this year, as well as spruiking lamb in his now annual Mla Australia Day address, Kekovich will also be appearing in ads for McDonald’s and Coles.
In the Coles ad – created by Big Red – Kekovich appears with chef Curtis Stone to promote lamb burgers. Kekovich delivers the line “Holy moly, mint aioli. Happy Austraioli Day”.
The McDonald’s ad – created by Ddb – features Kekovich at the drive through ordering a BBQ lamb burger. The ad is the latest part of the chain’s Australia Day campaign which has seen certain branches rebranded as “Macca’s”.

And in the Bmf-created Australia Day ad, which launched last week, Kekovich suffers from “Lambnesia”.

Meat & Livestock Australia’s front man Sam Kekovich suffers a head injury which causes him to hallucinate about rugby players in tutus, getting his fingernails painted and dancing Gangnam Style in this year’s Australia Day campaign.
Kekovich tells viewers that he is suffering from “Lambnesia” which causes symptoms of unAustralianess.
The scene was set for the campaign with Ten uploading a video to its YouTube channel last week which appeared to show Kekovich being injured by a misdirected cricket ball during a live cross with weatherman Tim Bailey.
The reveal was due to take place on Seven’s Today Tonight yesterday evening, but the network extended its news bulletin to cover the bush fires emergency, with Kekovich appearing on Sunrise this morning.
The ad retains Kekovich’s signature rant to camera. The campaign, from creative agency Bmf, aims to drive consumers to a website where they are invited to...

A video uploaded by Channel 10 purporting to show Sam Kekovich being accidentally hit by a cricket ball is looking increasingly likely to be part of a guerilla marketing campaign for Meat & Livestock Australia after the personality tonight claimed on Facebook that he tended the injury with a frozen chop.
As Mumbrella reported on Monday, questions were raised about the authenticity of the video which purported to be part of a live cross featuring Kekovich and Ten’s weatherman Tim Bailey.
Ten was then revealed as the media partner for this year’s Mla Australia Day campaign which features Kekovich as its spokesman.
Tonight, Kekovich posted an image of himself on Facebook captioned: “Tiny Tim Bailey comes to my aid after some goose hit me in the scone with a cricket ball. I felt a bit better after I put a frozen chop on it.”

Kekovich hit by cricket ball in suspicious video
Days after posting a video purporting to show Sam Kekovich being hit by a cricket ball during a live cross, Ten has revealed that it is the commercial TV network partner for this year’s Australia Day campaign from Meat and Livestock Australia.
Ten disabled comments on the YouTube video after a large number of people suggested that the footage was faked.
The new video apparently shows Kekovich taking part in a live cross with Ten weatherman Tim Bailey at Birchgrove Oval in Leichard.
The pair stand on the side of a cricket game at a barbecue, while Bailey introduces Kekovich as the “Lambassador”. Kekovich is the long standing frontman for Mla’s lamb promotions.
As Kekovich starts to speak to Bailey, he appears to be struck on the head by a cricket ball, the camera is knocked over and an anxious voice asks “Is he okay?...
