SAG-AFTRA’s upcoming election is taking shape, with the union’s ruling party – headed by presidential candidate Fran Drescher – today unveiling its full slate of candidates.
Yvette Nicole Brown is running for president of the Los Angeles local, and Ezra Knight is running for president of the union’s New York local – each as part of the ruling parties’ Unite for Strength and Usan slate. Brown, a national board member, is nominated for an Emmy for A Black Lady Sketch Show, and Knight, who co-starred for many years on Law & Order, is the New York local’s vice president and a national board member.

More than 100 women, including Ellen Barkin and Allison Janney, have voiced support for Matthew Modine’s campaign for SAG-AFTRA presidency, following a joke at a SAG-aftra meeting that some decried as misogynist.
With voting set to conclude on Aug. 28, the campaigns have featured vitriolic attacks between supporters of Modine, secretary-treasurer Jane Austin and incumbent president Gabrielle Carteris for several weeks.
The latest incident took place on Aug. 16 at a town hall meeting featuring Austin, Carteris and Modine, organized by the UnionWorking group. During the Q&a portion, Modine responded with a joke when asked why he’s the best choice by saying, “Because I’m the only man running…?”
Modine then explained that he was the only man who had been invited to participate in the town hall. Two other candidates – Abraham Justice and Queen Alljahye Searles – were not invited by the organizers.

Chantal Cousineau, one of the leaders of the #MeToo Movement, says she hasn’t had a single day of work as an actress since she became the first of hundreds of women to accuse director James Toback of sexual harassment and assault back in October 2017, shortly after the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke.
“I haven’t worked since I came forward, and I used to shoot up to 10 commercials a year,” she said on a recent podcast with SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris and national executive director David White.
Carteris acknowledged that she, too, has been harassed. “In my career, I’ve actually had women who I feel have been to that point of harassment towards me,” she said. “It’s not just men. That’s why I think it’s so important for us to remember that it’s a power issue.” Unlike Cousineau, however, she didn’t name her harassers.

For the past year, actress Rosanna Arquette has been a leading voice in the #MeToo movement, headlining events, giving interviews and lending her star power to the fight against sexual misconduct in the workplace.
But even though she’s no stranger to accolades, being applauded for her activism by a roaring 1,500 women at the “Power Women Summit” in downtown Los Angeles Friday left her so overwhelmed, she completely blanked out.
“I had a little shutdown,” she told TheWrap almost apologetically. “I kind of went out of my body for minute. I felt really emotional being with the girls.”

Arquette, who was among the first women to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct last year, was one of more than two dozen #MeToo advocates honored at the event, aimed at achieving gender equity in entertainment and media.

California Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law Sundayfour bills designed to toughen the state’s enforcement of sexual harassment laws and make it easier for victims to pursue civil claims. The Golden State also enacted a law mandating that public companies based in California have at least one female board member by the end of next year.
The bills were part of a package heavily supported by entertainment industry figures in response to the outpouring of sexual misconduct claims during the past year. One component of the package that did not make it all the way to the governor’s signature was a bid to ban arbitration clauses in employment agreements — a common feature in entertainment industry contracts that has help shield harassment cases from public view.
Actors Rosanna Arquette, Mira Sorvino and Chantal Cousineau were among the industry players who lobbied for the legislation, dubbed the “Take the Lead...

The James Toback film The Private Life of a Modern Woman starring Sienna Miller will make its German premiere at the Oldenburg Film Festival and there has been an outcry of disapproval considering the sexual assault allegations hovering over the disgraced filmmaker.
The film made its premiere last year at Venice and is set to bow at the fest Saturday. Distributor Paul Thiltges took to Twitter to defend the film screening at Oldenburg writing, “We support Sienna Miller’s world class performance in this movie. She is in every single scene, and she is brillant. We love the movie and will continue to defend it against all odds.”
It didn’t take too long for women to come for him.
Actress Chantal Cousineau, who accused Toback of harassment last year, responded “This is #rapeculture in the flesh. Placing a woman #siennaMiller in every scene, does not make it okay to...
