Saturday Night Live took a break from politics in its cold open to riff on March Madness — more specifically how the women’s tournament has been a lot more exciting than the men’s competition.
The setup was TBS’ post-game coverage, with co-host Kenny Smith (Devon Walker) noting that 14 million people watched the the Iowa-Connecticut game, where Caitlin Clark faced Paige Bueckers.
Fellow host Charles Barkley (Kenan Thompson) chimed in, “The women’s is turning up the stars. Caitlin Clark is going as for State Farm, Subway, XFinity and Nike. I’m only doing ads for three of those companies.”
Later, the anchors go to Lsu coach Kim Mulkey (Heidi Gardner), who says she’s been made up to look “like the Riddler with the Talbots.”
When she was asked about her reputation for being too tough on her players, she told them, “Ohh please. People think I’m just...

A battle for the ages is shaping up on Sunday to decide the NCAA Women’s National Basketball championship.
No. 1 seed Iowa, led by all-time NCAA scorer Caitlin Clark, will face undefeated South Carolina, a team hungering for revenge after being dumped last year by the Hawkeyes in the semifinals.
The championship game is set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Rocket Mortgage Field House in Cleveland, Ohio.
Iowa had to sweat a little at the end before winning. UConn had a shot to potentially tie or win the game, but an offensive foul, a Clark free throw, and some nervous inbounds plays had to be endured before the final score of 71-69 was in the books.
Clark had 21 points in the victory. Hannah Stuelke led the Hawkeyes with 23 points. Paige Bueckers had 17 for UConn.
In the earlier game, South Carolina had no problem with North Carolina State, rolling past them...

Many fans of The Voice were unhappy when they watched the recent episode of NBC’s singing competition show.
While viewers expected to see a specific stage of the competition, it didn’t air this week.
The Knockouts stage performances weren’t part of the episode and will air next week on The Voice.
Instead of seeing these new performances, viewers saw highlights from previous episodes in Season 25 and a recap of the Blind Auditions and Battles.
That abrupt schedule change in the performances led to some fans venting about the show.
Viewers also speculated about the reason for the schedule change, as other significant events aired on television.

No matter who prevails next Sunday at the NCAA’s championship game, 2024’s March Madness will go down in history as a milestone moment for women’s sports. Not just in the college basketball realm — but for female athletes overall.
In a perfect storm, the annual bracket-bonkers frenzy around the NCAA college basketball tournament has conferred a level of respect to the women’s game that is rarely been seen across sports media, but for the quadrennial exception of the Women’s World Cup. It’s happening this year for all the right reasons – basically, math and gravity. The games have been too good to ignore and the stats put up by such players as the University of Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, Louisiana State University’s Angel Reese, USC’s freshman phenom JuJu Watkins and University of Connecticut’s Paige Bueckers are too eye-popping to not analyze.

Paige Bueckers, point guard for the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team and Best Female College Athlete winner at the ESPYs on Saturday, devoted her acceptance speech to Black women, whom she said do not get enough credit for the contributions they have made to both basketball and society as a whole.
“With the light that I have now as a white woman who leads a Black-led sport and celebrated here, I want to shed a light on Black women,” Bueckers said. “They don’t get the media coverage that they deserve. They’ve given so much to the sport, the community and society as a whole and their value is undeniable.”
"To all the incredible Black women in my life, on my teams. To Breonna Taylor and all the lives lost. To those names I have not yet learned but I hope to share — I stand behind you...
