The United States men’s curling team is officially bringing home a gold medal from the 2018 Winter Olympics — and they made a bit of history in the process.
Team USA’s curlers faced off against Sweden on Saturday in the men’s curling final, completing a dramatic run in Gangneung, South Korea, that saw them beat out three-time defending Olympic champions Canada twice in less than a week to reach the gold-medal game.
Saturday’s match-up was the first curling final that the Americans have ever played. They defeated the Swedish team 10-7.

Olympics recap: Jeremy Abbott's a phoenix, plus the slopestyle boys at their 5 most precious moments
There are many candidates for Thursday’s Olympic Stud of the Day, an EW.com tradition dating back to the 2008 Summer Games that honors the athlete who was the night’s biggest/coolest badass. The U.S.’s Joss Christensen, Gus Kenworthy, and Nick Goepper swept the inaugural men’s ski slopestyle event — a feat the U.S. has only accomplished twice before in Winter Olympics history. Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu became the first male figure skater to ever score above 100 points for a short program. Zhang Hong was the first Chinese speed skater to win long-track gold. But we...

10) Nadia Comaneci, 1976 Summer Olympics, Montreal, Canada
Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci was not only a medal-winning machine. Due to her uneven bar routine at the 1976 Olympics, Nadia was also the first female gymnast to score a perfect 10. Ever. Comaneci would go on to receive six more perfect 10s in her Olympic career, which begs the question: Can you imagine giving...

It’s Part One of the Top Chef Season 9 Texascouver Finale, entitled Culinary Olympics, and let me just begin by saying, many people have incessantly complained about this season (most notably my mothers’ texts at 11:01 every Wednesday), saying that it’s the worst Top Chef season yet. I haven’t totally agreed, as I believe peoples’ reservations are more a factor of just Top Chef fatigue in the show’s 9th season mixed with a largely uninspiring cast (with one head-and-shoulders favorite who should’ve been named the winner six weeks ago). The challenges, on the contrary, have actually been very good this season, as they’ve mostly bypassed gimmicky themes (Bi-Parti-Sandwich, or “Cook something a penguin would eat!” “I think a penguin would love this braised shortrib”) and arbitrarily-restricting challenges in favor of challenges that showcase the chefs’ actual ability and give them more creative freedom (the “Pee...

In the hours since Canada's Joannie Rochette won the bronze medal in the ladies' figure skating competition at the Vancouver Olympics, the 24-year-old, whose mother died of a heart attack Sunday has been navigating a maze of mixed emotions. "I miss my mom," Rochette, who is skating in Saturday's exhibition of Olympic champions, told People on Friday. "But I want to enjoy the moment. I'm happy with what I accomplished, but it's tragic she wasn't here to see it. But wherever she is right now, she's smiling at me." Rochette also said she has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of...

With two days left in the 2010 Vancouver Games, I'm getting prematurely nostalgic for some of their random, "only in the Olympics" quirks. My favorite Olympicism lately has been the NBC commentators' constant use of the term "most decorated" to describe athletes -- like U.S. speed skater Apolo Ohno, the Most Decorated Olympian of All Time -- who have won a bunch of medals. I enjoy picturing these people as Christmas trees or spacious sunlit lofts, finally adorned to their fullest potential. Other Olympicisms I'll miss: Shaun White's Spicoli-ness Proud family members in the audience, especially if they're old,...

For me, it's a tie. An unprecedented double gold! I love this one from Procter and Gamble, proud sponsor of Moms. They also have one set to Shirley Bassey's "You'll Never Walk Alone". I think it's kind of creepy when little boys try to shave (ewww Kevin McAllister), but the look of fearful determination on the little figure skating girl at 0:39 just slays me. I have died. Lower me into ice! But that one's just teary. The Dan Jansen Visa commercial is teary and goosebumpy, front-crossovering from horror to depression to icy redemption within 30 seconds. He Named His Daughter Jane,...

Sometimes, you just have to let it all out.
Maybe you had a bad day. Maybe you had a bad month. Maybe your significant other failed to mention they were sharing time with another significant other until you caught on to some suspicious tweets. Listen, I don't know what your problem is, but sometimes we humans just need to get in a good cry. Whether it's a scene from a movie or a good commercial (like that new Visa one with Dan Jansen for these Olympics — stupid thing gets me almost every time). Every now and then we just need to lean on a shoulder, bury our faces in a blanket or stare into space and just let it rip.
I'm a guy, so don't kid yourself, I'm not even supposed to admit I cry. (It's un-manly!) But I'll put my ego aside, just like Stephon Marbury...

In the second major sponsor switch-off of the week, Stephen Colbert agreed to back the U.S. Speedskating team last night after their original sponsor, Dsb Bank, folded. A heroic gesture for sure, commemorated by special guest Dan Jansen and executive director of U.S. Speedskating Bob Crowley, who signed papers on air. Despite the fanfare though, it's Colbert's fans -- and not the show -- who will be supporting the team. Now, if only he could volunteer members of the Colbert Nation to pay for a scripted drama on NBC. The bit in question comes about two minutes into the provided link. [Colbert Report]...
