Music streaming giant Spotify is making a new round of cuts to its podcast division following a broad round of layoffs in January and job cuts in October.
In a memo to staff Monday morning from Sahar Elhabashi, the head of Spotify’s podcast unit, the company said that it would be reducing its workforce by about 2 percent, representing around 200 jobs.
“We are expanding our partnership efforts with leading podcasters from across the globe with a tailored approach optimized for each show and creator,” Elhabashi wrote. “This fundamental pivot from a more uniform proposition will allow us to support the creator community better. However, doing so requires adapting; over the past few months, our senior leadership team has worked closely with Hr to determine the optimal organization for this next chapter.”
In addition, Spotify will merge its Parcast and Gimlet into a single Spotify Studios division, which will join The Ringer in producing Spotify originals.

Spotify has named new managing directors for its Gimlet and Parcast podcast studios the day after news that it plans to cancel a combined 11 original podcasts and eliminate about 5 of its podcast headcount.
Nicole Beemsterboer will be stepping up to lead Gimlet. She joined Spotify earlier this year as Gimlet’s Head of News & Knowledge. Previously at NPR, she has worked on shows like Embedded and Invisibilia with accolades that include a Peabody Award. She was also a senior producer for the NPR podcast White Lies, a finalist for the first Pulitzer Prize for Audio Reporting in 2020.
Liliana Kim joins Spotify as managing director of Parcast effective November 7. She was most recently at American Public Media where she served as general manager of Apm Studios. She previously worked at HBO and Viacom.
Both report to Julie McNamara, who leads the Spotify Studios operations.

Spotify has promoted Nicole Beemsterboer to lead Gimlet, the in-house podcast studio formerly led by Lydia Polgreen, Spotify’s chief content and business officer Dawn Ostroff and head of talk studios Julie McNamara told staff on Thursday.
Beemsterboer, who joined Spotify earlier this year from NPR to become Gimlet’s head of news and knowledge, will succeed Polgreen roughly six months after Polgreen first announced she was leaving Spotify to rejoin the New York Times as an opinion columnist. While at NPR, Beemsterboer was involved in popular shows like Embedded and Invisibilia and was a senior producer on White Lies, a podcast that was a finalist for the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Audio Reporting.
“[Beemsterboer’s] passion for podcasting, creators and Gimlet is well known,” the Spotify executives wrote in the note to staff. “I cannot wait to see what she’s going to achieve in this new capacity.
