Paramount Global chief financial officer Naveen Chopra said management is chipping away at debt, cutting costs, heading towards streaming profitability and otherwise “focused on execution” but won’t ignore other opportunities to create value for shareholders.
“We believe that continued execution of our plan will unlock value. We are very conscious of the fact that our job as management is to create value for all our shareholders. There are multiple ways to potentially accomplish that. But to the extent that there are other alternatives, we will be diligent about exploring them,” he told investors at a Morgan Stanley media conference when asked about M&a speculation swirling around the Bob Bakish-led, Shari Redstone-owned company for months, with no deal announced.
He declined to comment on the M&a chatter, which has zeroed in on David Ellison’s Skydance Media, Bryon Allen and, earlier, Warner Bros. Discovery.

Bryon Allen must want BET by any means necessary.
The standup comic-turned media mogul has submitted a bid to buy Paramount, IndieWire has confirmed — all of Paramount. His Allen Media Group, along with partners, have put up $30 billion to purchase all of Paramount Global’s outstanding shares. As first reported by Bloomberg, the offer is really for $14.3 billion, but it would include the assumption of $15-$16 billion in debt.
“Mr. Byron Allen did submit a bid on behalf of Allen Media Group and its strategic partners to purchase all of Paramount Global’s outstanding shares,” Allen’s spokesperson said in a statement shared with IndieWire. “We believe this $30 billion offer, which includes debt and equity, is the best solution for all of the Paramount Global shareholders, and the bid should be taken seriously and pursued.”

Tyler Perry says his interest in buying a majority stake in BET following news that Paramount was exploring a sale is far from rumor.
The producer and studio owner, who has been a longtime partner of BET, dispelled notions that he wasn’t fully interested in the network while recently speaking to Entertainment Tonight at Tyler Perry Studios.
“Rumor? No, it’s not a rumor,” Perry said. “I’ve been there for four years now and had tremendous success. I wasn’t expecting this to happen, so, yes … If it’s possible, I’m gonna take as much of it as I can.”
The Hollywood Reporter first reported news of interest from Perry whose 2017 deal with Paramount is reportedly ending soon. If he was able to make the purchase, the majority stake in BET would give the mogul ownership of the brand that airs many of his shows. At the time,...

Piano-playing comedian and political satirist Mark Russell died Thursday at the age of 90, his wife Ali Russell said.
For more than 50 years, Russell took shots at all sectors of the political spectrum with stand-up monologues and song parodies. He was best known for his PBS specials, which he taped six times a year from 1975 to 2004. His routines, which he sang and performed on piano, covered the latest political news with timely lyrical updates of classic songs.
Russell was a member of the National Comedy Center Advisory Board, and was remembered by fellow member Jon Stewart, who said, “Mark Russell was a DC institution who did the hardest thing a comic can do… relentlessly and righteously mock his neighbors.”

“Seeing the handwriting on the wall, two days ago the WGA dismissed without prejudice its state court case against the four agencies and simultaneously filed a counterclaim to the suit that was brought against three of the agencies for antitrust violations on the part of the guild,” Ken Ziffren said Wednesday as he laid out the battle between the WGA and Hollywood’s Big 4 talent agencies.
