Harry Wheatcroft
Harry Wheatcroft (1898-1977) was a famous English rose grower known for his flamboyant appearance and opinions. Born at 23 Handel Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. In 1927 the horticultural firm of Wheatcroft Brothersthey introduced the Princess Elizabeth rose to honour the royal baby. In 1963 he made the Fragrant Cloud rose the talking point of the National Rose Society's autumn show by filling a bowl with its wonderfully scented petals. He may be best remembered for his TV advertising of Acta-Bacta plant nutrient in the 1960's.
