Colman Domingo and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett have joined the cast of the Jordan Peele-produced horror film “Candyman,” which kicks off principal photography in Chicago this week, MGM announced on Tuesday.
Domingo, who stars on “Euphoria” and is known for “Fear the Walking Dead,” and Stewart-Jarrett, known for the series “Misfits,” are starring alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Us”) and Teyonah Parris (“If Beale Street Could Talk”) in “Candyman.”
“Candyman” comes from MGM and Peele and Win Rosenfeld’s Monkeypaw Productions, and is a spiritual sequel to the 1992 gothic horror film of the same name. Nia Dicosta (“Little Woods”) is directing from a script written by Peele and Rosenfeld based on “The Forbidden,” an original short story by Clive Barker.

Exclusive: Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Misfits) and Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead) are ready to say his name five times in the mirror. The two actors have joined Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Us) and Teyonah Parris (If Beale Street Could Talk) in MGM and Jordan Peele’s forthcoming reboot of the classic horror film Candyman, which has begun principal photography this week in Chicago. Universal Pictures will distribute Candyman globally with the U.S. release date set for June 12, 2020.

The film will be shot entirely in Chicago and feature various locations throughout the city, including the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified North Side where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.

Exclusive: Emma Westenberg is set to direct her first studio feature, which is set up at MGM. Westenberg, who directed the music video for Janelle Monáe’s song, Pynk, will helm Buffalo Flats, a film that is set around the vibrant world of NYC underground pop-up clubs. Molly’s Game and End of Watch producer Matt Jackson is attached to produce the project via his Jackson Pictures banner alongside Jason Essex, who co-wrote the script with Lamont Magee and Cory Tynan.
It tells the story of a former tap prodigy who is forced to confront his stage past after meeting a tenacious law school-bound dancer at his grandmother’s studio.
