This time last year, Katja Cahill was taking a break pre-Oscars to visit “Banshees of Inisherin” breakout Jenny the Miniature Donkey — and her date (!!) — in a livestock trailer outside the Dolby.
“That was the best part of my Oscars, just getting to go hang out in the donkey trailer,” Cahill told IndieWire. “And donkeys have support donkeys too, so there were two donkeys there.” A frequent Oscars contributor, the costume designer crafted a glittering gold vest she described as a “blinged-out service animal jacket” for Jenny to wear on stage.
At the 96th Academy Awards, the self-professed animal lover once again brought her artistry to an attendee of a different species. Cahill dressed “Anatomy of a Fall” scene-stealer Messi the dog — who played Snoop for director Justine Triet’s Best Picture nominee and Best Original Screenplay winner (co-written with Arthur Harari) — in an oversized bow tie.

What do John Cena and Bella Baxter have in common? At the 96th Academy Awards, both drew attention to the gender pay gap Hollywood costume designers have alleged for years.
On Oscars Sunday, “Poor Things” snagged 11 nominations and four wins. That included Best Costume Design for Holly Waddington and her vision of what a Franken-woman and her suitors would wear in Victorian England. Cena appeared as the category’s presenter — promoting “Ricky Stanicky” and/or his “Barbie” cameo? — in a nude illusion joke that was specifically designed to emphasize the importance of the craft.
“Jimmy Kimmel’s camp was sort of honoring everybody who went through the strike and us all getting back to work and being unified,” costume designer Katja Cahill told IndieWire of the night’s theme and Cena’s cheeky moment. “The idea was to make it funny, but also call attention to the importance and the...

This year’s Emmy nominees are all staying home, but some are still being handed the awards on live television. Others aren’t so lucky.
As the 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards announced its winners on live television, the footage cut to its presenters — complete with hazmat tuxedo suits — giving the trophies to the stars. Ramy Youssef, however, posted a video to Twitter showing what happens when you don’t end up winning.

Youssef was nominated for best directing in a comedy series and best lead actor in a comedy series for Hulu’s “Ramy,” but lost both to the cast and crew of “Schitt’s Creek.” Despite not winning either of the awards, a hazmat-tuxedo presenter still showed up to his home during the night’s live announcements.

The 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards winners may be celebrating alone in their own homes during the live but virtual broadcast on Sunday, but some of them won’t have to socially distance from their awards!
Trophy presenters “may be visiting some of the winners live,” ABC, which will air the event, announced Friday. With this announcement came a first look (which you can see above) at the health and safety measures these presenters will utilize in order to deliver the statues amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The hazmat suit was created and designed by costume designer Katja Cahill and executive producer Guy Carrington. Carrington also worked with a hazmat manufacturer to create these garments for the show.
The 72nd Annual Emmy Awards will be live Sunday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. Et / 5 p.m. Pt, with host Jimmy Kimmel recording from Downtown Los Angeles, while nominees, presenters and winners will be cut to around the globe.
