Dublin, July 13 (Ians) Cricket Ireland on Thursday confirmed that former Australia spinner Nathan Hauritz has left his role of the national spin bowling coach for personal family reasons.
Hauritz had earlier taken compassionate leave in May this year for the same reasons which have now propelled him to leave the job of Ireland’s spin-bowling coach.
“Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed my experience with Cricket Ireland. The players, staff and families all made myself and (my wife) Dianne feel like we had been part of the organisation for years.
I will be forever grateful to Richard Holdsworth, Ed Joyce and Heinrich Malan for giving me an opportunity to coach at an international level. I wish them all well for the series against Australia Women and upcoming T20 qualifiers respectively,” said Hauritz in a statement issued by Cricket Ireland.

Galle, April 23 (Ians) Ireland spin bowling coach Nathan Hauritz is backing his slow bowlers to produce an improved performance in the second Test against Sri Lanka starting here on Monday.
Last week’s first Test was a one-sided affair as four Sri Lanka batters scored centuries and Ireland’s spinners struggled to adjust to the conditions as the hosts cruised to an emphatic innings and 280-run victory.
But Hauritz is confident Ireland will be more competitive when the second and final Test of the series commences on Monday, especially if his team has some luck at the toss and gets the chance to bat first.
“If we get the opportunity to bat first and put a good score on the board I’ll back our spinners to create problems and it will be interesting to see how their (Sri Lanka) batters play against us. But bowling first in these conditions...

Dublin, Dec 13 (Ians) Uncapped batter Stephen Doheny has been named in Ireland’s Odi and T20I squads for the tour of Zimbabwe, set to happen in January 2023. Doheny was a part of Ireland’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad but did not get a game in Australia.
With three ODIs and as many T20Is coming up against Zimbabwe, Doheny is in line to make his international debut. The two teams had recently met in the T20 World Cup where Zimbabwe secured a 31-run win over Ireland in the first-round match at Hobart.
Fast bowler Tyrone Kane returns to the side after nearly four years since his last international match against Zimbabwe in July 2019. Also making a return are leg-spinner Ben White and wicketkeeper-batter Neil Rock, both of whom debuted for Ireland in 2021.
Medium pacer Conor Olphert was not considered for selection in both white-ball squads due to injury. Cricket...

Dublin (Ireland), Sep 20 (Ians) Off-spinner Simi Singh was on Tuesday selected ahead of Andy McBrine as the third spinner in the Ireland squad for the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia starting next month.
With George Dockrell and Gareth Delany doing well this season, the selectors decided to pick one spinner in the 15-member squad and Simi Singh got the nod.
“One of the most considered decisions we had to make was around our spin bowling options. With George Dockrell and Gareth Delany both having an impact this summer and the variation they bring to the attack, it came down to making a choice between Simi Singh and Andy McBrine.
“Andy can feel very unfortunate to have missed out this time, but we believe Simi offers more variation on Australian wickets with his ability to take the ball away from both right and left-handers,” Cricket Ireland’s chief selector Andrew White said.

Belfast, Aug 15 (Ians) Ireland all-rounder Gareth Delany has credited his improved spin bowling show to new spin bowling coach Nathan Hauritz, saying the former Australia player has asked for the spinners to be braver while bowling in the middle overs.
Delany has played 13 ODIs and 47 T20Is for Ireland since his international debut in July 2019. But it has been his improved show with the ball that has stood out in Ireland’s home summer and made him an integral part of the bowling attack, picking seven wickets in his last five matches at an average of 19.14 and economy rate of 7.05.
“Scott Irvine (Performance Analyst) provides us with some good insight into their strengths and weaknesses and then as a spin unit we’ve been having very good discussions in coming up with game plans for each of the opposition players. I’ve also felt that I’ve regained confidence in...
