He was one of the Cure's roadies before joining the band full-time in
1990 as keyboard player/guitarist, following the departure of
Roger O'Donnell.
On May 27th 2005 Robert Smith announced that Perry along with keyboardist Roger O'Donnell were no longer in the band. No official reason was ever given for their departure. Smith and Bamonte remain amicable. Smith has since rehired
Porl Thompson.
Perry has been crediting for writing the music to the songs "Trust" off
Wish, "This Is a Lie" off Wild Mood Swings, and "Anniversary" off The
Cure.
Perry is left-handed, a feature that distinguishes him from Robert Smith,
Simon Gallup, and Porl Thompson in several photographs that show the four of them
brandishing a guitar or bass.
He grew up in Basildon, England, where he attended St. Nicholas School. He was in the same class as Alison Moyet, Andy Fletcher and Martin Gore of Depeche Mode.
He joined The Cure as a keyboard player only a few months after having been taught to play the keyboard (by Janet Thompson, sister of Robert Smith and wife of Porl Thompson).
Brother, Daryl, and sister, Carla.
His favourite TV programme is 'The Sky at Night'.
His first guitar teacher tried to teach him how to play the guitar right-handed, but it did not work out for him.
