He was awarded the 2004 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award with
Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler for Outstanding Musical
Production of 2003 for "Pacific Overtures", performed at the Donmar
Warehouse.
His dance program, "Contact", with Susan Stroman was performed at the
Queen's Theatre in 2002 and was nominated for a 2003 Laurence Olivier
Theatre Award for Best Entertainment.
Was nominated for Broadway's Tony Award three times as Best Book
(Musical): in 1976 for "Pacific Overtures," in 1996 for "Big - The
Musical" and in 2000 for "Contact."
He is a librettist for Cole Porter's new musical revival, "Anything Goes," which was awarded the 2011 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival.
Father of daughter, Laura Elizabeth Weidman (born in 1983) and father-in-law of Michael Parker Powers. Son of the late Jerome Weidman, novelist and playwright.
